Will SE's algorithms change in the future? What will it be like?

You can be certain that they will change to sum extent. Its pretty hard trying to predict the future, but I would expect to see more user interactive searches, empowering the surfer kind of thing. Id also expect a growth in media types within search engines.

As far as im aware the SE's algorithms are constantly changing, just when you think you have it all together they move the finishing line again.:)

Hey, If they didn't move the "finishing line" the search engines would become stale. People who have it all figured out, will stop working on their sites and live off their existing rankings. Which would make the search engines irrelevant...people would rely more on social networking or whatever. Google would lose it's $500/share price.
We can't have that, can we? :)

I don’t know about search engines becoming irrelevant! People will always use search engines unless and better form of web exploration is invented.

I think that we will see the search engines perhaps getting "smarer" in the sense that they will no longer reward sites that seem Spammy or just have content that was scraped from another site...

    But honestly - who knows...

Yeeesh... certainly they are almost constantly changing (playing with the dials) - where to?

I am on the bandwagon of relevance - semantics and phrase based optimization

The algorithms are constantly being changed....as soon as someone finds a loophole and exploits it...the engineers step up and tweak the algorithms to counteract it.

    It a constant battle

I think SE algorithms will constantly change due to the current competition out there. All the search engines will strive to be the best and come up with ways to show the best and highest quality content.

Yes there will be changes in the google algorithm but the people will find a way to and exploit the google code. Nothing is perfect even GOOGLE.

That is how everything works inventing and abusing motion of life.

A big change could happen in Google's PR system. A new patent was released in June last year. Maybe we are experiencing the change now. Who knows.

I want another new SE to step up on the stage before Google change some stuff and people follow that.
