That is not a rule, is it.. A bit more research would prove wrong. Simplemachines: (12-Jun-2003 - newer than myBB) Currently online 732 Guests, 115 Users (5 Hidden)..
I have been using MyBB from 15 months. I can get a Vbulletin for the forums. But I am simply loving MyBB. Too easy to modify if we want to add custom code here and there.
I don't see how the page names actually matter. phpBB, probably many other forum software have search.php aswell as something close too or very similiar to the above. It's also obvious why the features are "the same" or very close and that would be because of competition and trying to meet the quality of the other software, or something alike.
In my opinion, each script has it's pros and cons, and simply, even a paid script like VBulletin doesn't suit everyones needs. There's people that can afford VB, but hate it, and would use a free script instead. I personally like MyBB. The reason for the lack of mods and themes, is as someone else showed, the SMF, phpBB, and VB community is more active. As more people switch over to myBB, it will be improved, and according to the myBB developers, their 2.0 version will be better than SMF.
Vb actually has a convertor from mybb to vb lol so i dont think mybb is doing anything wrong. I have some good mybb domains if anyone is interested =) lol
Well it's good to hear voices that can prove that myBB is a legal forum software. Makes me look its way, too. I would however buy vB for a serious project while still considering myBB for cheaper websites. Afterall, paid software support is what counts, to me at least.
Yeah I use mybb for small projects vb for the big projects. VB no matter what has so many other options for skins and mods. Also I have never seen a huge mybb site so I dont know how it would function if it had 100k members for example or things that could go wrong.
Always considered SMF to have a worthless search system. While vBulletin returns results that are quite relevant to what you're looking for (try searching DP forums), with SMF you'll often find yourself searching again and again before you get to the right thread..
MyBB is not a rip-off of vBulletin, by using MyBB you are not getting vB for free in any shape, form, etc. vB are not as stupid as some people in this thread are implying. If there was any sort of a legal discrepancy, they would have shut it down before you even knew MyBB existed.
I use myBB alot and I even plan to port vB to myBB again when possible. I had a site with ~1000 users and got ~30 posts per day, but when I switched myBB => vB, the users stopped using because of the password encryption was used differently. Most of the users said vB was more complicated than myBB which is weird because myBB is free and I paid $160 for vB
wow that sucks normally users i thougth like vb hmm i guess it depends on the type of community. If its tech/internet related I think they will like mybb. If its something related to older people then I think they will like something simple like phpbb or mybb
That affirmation would not make me take any decision in regards to switching to a different vulletin board. Besides, I doubt that you received that complaint or whatever you wish to call it from too many people on your site. Too complicated? Well, make it simple.. If you take a better look on the web, you'll see that serious portals either use vBulletin or Invision (although I did not come accross to many IPB examples lately). This is one of the reason I would switch to vB if I were to host more than 1,000 users, people are used to the vB interface. In fact, I would even stick to a vB theme that does not lead too much away from the standard one. This way you give your users the feeling of a board they already know. You did mean tech savvy people would prefer vB, didn't you?
