I have thought a lot about starting a proxy network, but have a few questions before I dish out $75/month for a VPS/DS. Are proxies going to be around in 5 years from now? Are there any reasons for not starting a proxy network? Thanks.
Seems like a pretty saturated market with other risks involved. Maybe some others will have some info for you...
Have you already got your site up etc? I would get shared hosting first and wait til you get a hundred + unques a day before VPS. But some hosts wont allow you to run obv.
you should take a ds at the very beginning imo. once you get suspended by your shared host, you will feel harder to make a comeback and till then, your traffic will be in fear. proxy's are a good source of income only if you get it right.
Before you start wondering about if they are going to be here for another 5 years, you really have to think if it will take you that long to get your investment back? I mean think about, 75 dollars a month is nothing if even 3 of the proxies start earning $1 a day. You already make a profit of $25.
I am definitely going to need a VPS or even DS atleast, I wouldnt host proxies on my shared hosting. I want to start with just a few proxies and use all my earnings to create more proxies. Im still young and Im hoping in a few years or so I could have a few hundred proxies making me a decent income. Any reason why this is not possible? Any risks I should be worried about?
Well proxies will usually get blocked by a school system after about 3 months. The administrator at the school will see all the kiddies using the proxy to sign into myspace and than bam its blocked. No biggie you move on to another proxy. A single domained proxy isnt that longterm
Yeah, thats why I want to make a network of proxies. I just want to know what Im getting myself into.
Dnt worry about it, the fixed cost if your server, after that if you want to spend some good money on domains buy .com's, if not buy .info's, I suggest doing 1 proxy at a time. Spend about a week on one, and than move on to the next.
Good question Sullmoney - been thinking along the same lines. Whether you get the real answers here - who knows? Many people consider the best way to earn good money online is to create a site that fills a under developed niche and is popluar with slow growing steady income. Dah! Stating the obvious i know BUT: If you can than replicate that same site with the same or related theme quickly and inexpernsively that little bit of profit can add up to some serious $$$ from just the adsense alone. Reminds me of like a virtual monopoly of internet real estate- The more land you own the more chance someone has of landing on it. That sounds great in theory but like most things hard to implement. Themes like proxies, arcades, myspace resources, site directories and blogs have been used to this effect well. Small earnings from ad or link publishing with good traffic. Proxies does seem a bit oversatrated - i only have to look at the sites for sale section here at DP, lately there has been stacks of established proxy networks sold off in large numbers? Some of them look to very profitable already but still their sellers look to be getting out of that area? Make of it what u will. Im not saying its too late to start a network but ideally 3-6 months ago with hindsight would have been most ideal. But in saying that with the right application and knowledge it can be done effectively and be profitable still. Proxies are going be something people need so they will search for these sites to use. But can be somewhat disposible and have short live for some users. At least with proxies there is no real active management unlike a network of replicated theme blogs or websites thad need to have content updated regularly to be most effective. Something i have always wondered, How do the owners of large networks have enough time to manage and promote each of their 30-50-100+ sites to maximise SE rank, traffic and earnings? Getting a couple of sites to reach thier potential is hard enough.
I think you brought up some good points there. Most importantly being: Why are so many proxy owners eager to sell off their proxies and get out of that area? Making a couple bucks a day from a site that takes virtually 0 maintainence is almost a dream for many. I have not been able to find an answer to this anywhere. Anyone care to shed some light?
