Probably after the first service pack removed left over bugs and errors.

That's a sound decision. Never buy major software at the first release - always wait until after a few months of consumer testing and the first service pack. It may well be cheaper in a few months after the novelty has died down.

I'm holding off getting a new laptop til they come with it by default :)

Although I think most things you buy now come with an upgrade later.

I won't be buying vista anytime soon. I'm happily running 2000, XP and Ubuntu boxes for the time being.

BTW, shouldn't this thread be in General Chat?

Also I doubt that my soundcard will be compatible with Vista.
It's an old 5.1 philips soundcard. Even difficult to find drivers on the philips website for it.

Like many others here, I will wait until the first service pack before switching to Vista. Really no need to hurry. I'm still satisfied with XP.

Nah, I'm not going to buy it now. Probably just get it preinstalled when a new PC is coming.

Mac and Linux users don't need to. They have been enjoying MS's "innovations" long before MS introduces any in their new OS's.

We have received vista with our MSDN / Action pack subscriptions. Unfortunatelly the release version seems even slower then the last RC ... I think everyone will be waiting for the first SP before doing anything major.

No I will not be buying it but I am certain it will come with my next PC. In other words, I will not be buying it separately but I will be getting a copy eventually.

PS: I know the cost for Vista is included as part of the computer's cost so it is not really free :)
