Adding adsense later on?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by Tanna, Jan 27, 2007.

Im starting a site which specialises in everything to do with the britsh legal system. There will be around 100-200 fresh unique articles hence being picked up by search engines.

I've been told to add adsense once the site is established and is getting a nice inflow of visitors, and not from the very beginning.

    What would you recommend?

    And views would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tanna

Well make sure that the integration of adsence at a later stage will not be time consuming. However i see no reason as to not use adsence from the very beginning.

There's really no reason not to go ahead and put Adsense on right away, since I doubt you'll be getting repeat visitors very often, and visitor loyalty for your type of site doesn't seem to matter. People search the SE's looking for a particular legal case/law, finds your page, goes, sees it, reads up, and leaves never to come back since they've gotten what they needed.

Visitor loyalty doesn't matter? I get 60% of my visitors that way! And I still get a decent click through rate. Repeat visitors are also more likely to mail links, to get you links etc.
The main reason why I would not advise putting adsense on early is that you will focus on the adsense, instead of on building the content and links. It's just a waste of time at first.
When you have got a decent amount of daily visitors you can start with adsense and optimizing it and all that stuff. But at first you have to have visitors.

The alternative is to put adsense on your site and just not look at it again until you do get visitors (around 1000 a day). You could just put one adblock on each page (well blended) and treat it as a sort of primitive website-statistic for your site. But don't worry about CTR and eCPM and all that stuff yet. With few visitors the numbers just don't mean anything yet.

you can have it either way you want < right from starting or even after getting developed > ... though I would say have the adsense from the start but just dont go against the TOS :) :)

You can do either. The argument for adding it later is that people prefer to link to sites without ads. I am not sure if this is a strong enough case to avoid putting the ads on sooner and earning money in the meantime.

I would add it right from the start. Legal sites pay very well in adsense (I know I have one) in fact, when you get it up let me know, and I'll exchange links with you (pr 3 site)

Personally I would add it at the start..that way you can "tweak" your coding placement etc from the start, watch the income that you make..also since you will be having Adsense on your site, Google will spider your site automatically (to put relevant adwords on your site)

I think the case for adding AdSense later on is a good one. For the reason by qwest above (you might get more links if people see you as a pure info site and will be more likely to link).

Secondly I think it's about focus. If you concentrate on hitting a target, say 500 uniques a day, then you'll be fixed on meeting that goal rather than playing around with ad formats, colours etc when less visitors isn't really a big enough sample to properly test with.

And thirdly, how much money are you really going to miss out on before hitting your target? If you're hard up it might seem like a lot, but in the long run if you concentrate on making a success then the rewards will follow.

Valid points were given for and against when to put adsense..I quess for me the final decision would be.."when do i want to start making money" if I put adsense 3 months later..am I losing 3 months of passive income?

Seriously, thanks for all of the replies.

Jack - Excellent point. There will be a lot of case law on the site. If i was to find out details of a case - i would go to a site, get what i want, and leave.
kh7 - Very true. Thanks for the input.
qwestcommunications - I didnt know of this. Interesting. This is a major factor in deciding when to add adsense for me.
ronmojohny - Would be good, i'll get back to you :)
briguy - I dont need the money at the moment. I'm not gonna' be glued to my computer screen, checking my adsense stats every 30 mins. I'd rather get a nice inflow of visitors first.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your input :)

Um, yeah, you might want to re-read what I wrote before you jump all over it there, buddy. I said visitor loyalty doesn't matter for his type of site.

You can start off with it, but make sure it doesn't turn new visitors away...

put your ads from start so that visitors are used to of ads. in my past experience with one of my site; i never put ads on that site and when later on i put ads, it was hard for me to achieve results and get good earnings but things were okay after 3 months then. So i would certainly suggest to put ads from scratch but you should have contents too ;) :D
