Monthly revenue is currently $450.00 on an average and growing, fluctuates between 300 and 600. Revenue comes from directory submissions, advertising and link sales as well as Google Adsense from the forum and the blog.

Thanks, Jeff. Yes, money is already being made. In the right hands, there are no limits to how much this site can make. The groundwork is done. Just need the right buyer with the right business mind and it will blow up. :)

It's not difficult at all to influence Alexa. There are several published demonstrations. A single person with the toolbar installed can sit and refresh pages manually or with a script. Or you can enlist the help0 of a small network of people to do it en masse.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again: Alexa stats are statistically invalid, unreliable, and totally meaningless.

I agree with you minstrel. Traffic stats like awstats and analytics are more reliable to use in measuring the popularity of a site. Not Alexa Rank.

Anywho, Blogmaster goodluck with the sale of your directory.

It is always interesting when a leading directory owner makes constructive observations as folks at time can, and will take note on comments made by market leaders in a sector

Trust is a key component of the established directory market, and of course integrity is always required to honor commitments

about 250 from submissions 150 links and 50 from adsense

I have spent money on around 100 paid submission to various directories, I also have about 1,200 listings in free directories, listings for the homepage, the forum, the blog and individual sections of the directory. Other than that I have a lot of links on many sites which I have given links to from elsewhere in return. Those will remain for the most part. I blogroll, etc.

I do agree with the alexa related comments for the most part (see here: http://www.frogengine.com/blog/should-i-use-alexa-as-an-indicator-of-how-much-traffic-a-site-gets/ ). Alexa is easy to influence. However, I would like to know what exactly I did to manipulate the stats.

ok - thanks for the info... but didn't really answer my 2nd question... i asked how much spent... ;)

so, monthly revenue = $300-$600... what about monthly profit? i.e. monthly revenue minus monthly cost?

I spend nothing, all advertising comes from exchanging listings, posting in forums, submitting to free directories etc. I have not spent anything on paid listings for about 2 months, yet the revenue increases. The site is hosted on my friend´s dedicated server and I can work out a good deal for whoever buys the site as well. :) The vb license is owned and included in the deal as well!

Yes Minstrel you are correct, Alexa is easy to manipulate. Was AmitPatel's comment alluding to or asserting claims that Frogengine's alexa was manipulated by Blogmaster or others to promote this sale? That was my underlying question as I find that comment counter productive and to no ones benefit.

    :)

He's asking for roughly two years revenue on the site under a best case scenerio. That's a bit too much to my mind..

You'll have to ask Amit. But it's still a fair comment - you cannot value any site using Alexa rank. There's no point in even posting that information, IMO. It's totally meaningless.

Where did we just refer to alexa?
Everyone is still waiting for all the stats which make it worth 8-10$

I believe there are many factors that need to be 'racked up' to evaluate the selling price of an established directory.

Here are just a few (limited of course ............ many more come into the mix)
    1. Has the site got 365/24/7 traffic
    2. Has the site got a revenue stream from submissions
    3. Has the site got Integrity
    4. Has the site in-situ contracts that are ongoing and will be honored
    5. Has the site for future marketing purposes got a known brand

Many other factors come to mind of course but are more open to many differing interpretations like pr etc etc ............. sure they have relevance but I am posting this post respective to

    Commercial Value Added Features

So let's take a minute to view the Upside for the potential buyer of the site

It seems that many commercial factors as listed 1 thru 5 are already developed so now about the future what is needed to be done

Well you have to maintain all that has been achieved to date of course, however you have imho something that is very important (and very difficult to evaluate) you have a Brand

    FrogEngine

With that brand and effective sustainable marketing FrogEngine will become a Major Player in the Directory Market for the new owner
