Theres been a domain I didnt re-register some time ago and when I noticed the mistake it was in redemptionperiod...

    Yesterday it changed to pendingDelete.

Does that mean in a week it will be free again to register? Or what is the time it takes to free up again?

I believe that once it goes into pending delete stage, it will be available in 5 days to anyone

I have read many places that some whois services dont update as fast as others. Also noticed that some still have the domain as redemption period an others as pending delete. Can anyone recommend which whois service is most uptodate.

    Domain Name: THEDOMAIN.COM
    Registrar: GOSERVEYOURDOMAIN.COM LLC
    Whois Server: whois.goserveyourdomain.com
    Referral URL: goserveyourdomaindotcom
    Name Server: DNS1.OREGONNAMES.COM
    Name Server: DNS2.OREGONNAMES.COM
    Status: ok
    Updated Date: 25-jan-2007
    Creation Date: 25-jan-2007
    Expiration Date: 25-jan-2008

    What does that mean?

But this doesnt seem like a private person...

Also, the domain means something to me, but I cant really imagine it has much importance to someone else..

No way I can get it back?

Someone backordered the domains and got it. I think based on what I am seeing here, someone used snapnames.com to grab the domain.

You cannot get the domain anymore. It is gone. Sorry!

Means that you just lost the opportunity to get it. Somebody used a SNAP service or registered manually minutes or some hours from the Available status.

What is the domain name if you don't mind. It is very likely you lost it. But there is a possibility you can get it back is someone got it for "domain tasting".

Basically, what it means is someone registered the name, they keep it for 5 days to checkout the traffic. If they get good traffic, they keep the name, if not they release it after five days. They will not have to pay for the name if they do it within 5 days.

You can look up "domain tasting" or "domain kiting" on wikipedia and you will find more information.

    Good luck!

PS: Give me greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen guys :)

Raw! You should know this... I'd pay $200 to the registrar to get it back.

Nope. You can't get it back after deleting from the registry and being released to the public. You can however get it back UNTIL the pending delete state and would cost you $50 - $200 depending on the registrar.

This was where you should have gone a different way rather than sit there and wait. I have had a few domain names that I let expire as they were useless to me. All of them got grabbed by bulk domain registering companies and they never actually became available to the public. It was a mistake to just wait, a wise thing would have been paying a company to try and "snap" it for you especially if the domain had any value.

I guess this is one way to learn a few lessons on the web. All you can do now is contact the new domain owner and negociate a possible take ofer. This is part of the business by the way, lots of companies grab expiring domains that will later be negociated with the ex-owners. I feel sorry for you anyway.

    Thanks for your answers guys...

As I said previously I doubt this domain has any meaning to anyone else, and as far as traffic probably zero as I havent used it in years and it basically means nothing unless you are me..

That's enough for the domain grabbers to consider taking it over and then waiting for you to get in touch and try to get it back for $$.

As long as you are ready to say that, I see no problem here. Just register a new domain name and make sure it doesn't become valuable to you and then suddenly expire again :) I would even set automatic renewal on with the current registrar and keem my payment information up to date, this way you will ensure no domains expire even if you forget to renew.
