I think around 20-40 directories are still PR7. http://www.best-web-directories.com/, here is a list, most of them still have higher PR.
Do you know which dp member owns this directory? I like to chat with them about some advertising, I know I can send an email but that always seems to take to long.
That confirms the theory, that you have to stay on defensive side, protect what you gained in terms of PR, lucky I am one of those people that recognised what a PR is really for to attract the other 75% of SEO WANNA BE ..
It's not only the pagerank that makes the directory, it's the overal quality of the directory that matters. Aviva is still a very good directory as even octopedia still is.
I think any directory that charges for submissions and can reject listings is a good directory. These guys promoted like crazy and now they are ripping benefits. Good luck to Aviva ..
I think you should look further than just the toolbar PR for the homepage. I don't feel that an index page's PR drop from 7 to 6 is really that significant. You can tell a bit more about the directory overall by reviewing the category pages and the PR distribution within the site. Seeing how the PR7 directories being mentioned in a few different threads didn't appear to lose any toolbar PR on their internal pages could indicate that the drop was likely insignificant. The toolbar isn't accurate and we'd have no idea if the PR drop was minimal, such as a drop (for example) from 7.05 to a 6.99 (or whatever it may actually be) because a few links might have been missed prior to the snapshot. I'd give it another round before getting overly excited about what an outdated graphical display for a browser add-on reflects about some of the better quality directories out there.
Maybe you guys should check back links instead of PR, or Page Strength to be exact. You can get PR6 with $100 these days
I agree with CReed. However, people would feel frustrated if his site dropped from 7 to 6 or 5. I believe those strong directorys will gain PR back next update. It looks this PR update is quite strict. Many PR 6 sites I bought links from dropped to 5.
I don't think those strong directorys will gain PR back next update unless the owners decide to buy backlinks again.
Who cares, is “Aviva†or “Octopedia†less quality because dropped 1 or 2 PR points? Please surf inside the directories see the sites listed there, make searches like “enlarge†see the sites that pop, then with yahoo look on the 1-3 first pages of backlinks. Forget PR i see directories with PR6 that are worthless, and will lose PR because owners bought links for only 3 months to sell then. And still if you want to look at PR look at the PR of the page your listing will be on, not the PR of homepage. I am just feed up with comments from people that don’t have a clue of what a quality directory is, and what a quality backlink profile is. It’s much easier to classify directories with a number on the scale of 0 to 10.
Want to see some directory integrity: Jayde PR6 - search "penis" - 1737 listings found http://directory.jayde.com/search?a=0&query=penis&search=search Aviva PR6 - search "penis" - 0 listings found http://www.avivadirectory.com/index.php?search=penis BTW probably the most important SEO factor in directories today is co-citation, so sites that get listed in the same page as you really matter.
