Maybe spend few on google ads, few on getting links from similar sites and few on organizing contest.

    I would put them into

    AdBrite - 30%, Google Adwords - 30%, YPN - 30%, Microsoft Ads - 10%

Make your MySpace site unique, or target it at a particular niche. Then
do press releases and contact bloggers and large forum owners in your
chosen niche and let them know. Offer them an incentive for promoting
your site, and then you've got free traffic :)

I would spend it on linking and placing ads on my space.com but I don't think 1 k is going to cut it :) seriously though, any site with a pr 4 or higher is a must to advertise on! By the time they are a pr 4 they have some decent traffic. I have such a site if your interested!

My suggestion will be to post the ads on myspace and facebook related forum. Facebook advertising will work well.
If site has unique futures or better than myspace you can advertise it on myspace groups forums.
i also believe that word of mouth and "tell a friend" will work great.
    Press release may help well.
in conclusion, i think that "free" marketing would even work better at the beginning.
    Thanks

My suggestion would be buying links from sites that are similiar to the niche of your site. I wouldnt worry to much on the PR of the site, instead I would look for well done sites with much traffic to them, PR is just a bonus.

Do what soccerfriend suggested. Hopefully by the time your funds run dry your site will be generating enough to continue with the marketing.

Good pr links are a great way to start, the pr tells the SE's mainly Google that you are linked on a important site. Let me know if your interested in some great pr link deals.

I'm with WillB. Pick a niche and really try to target the hell out of it.

I assure you, you can't compete with Myspace head-on. You need to find a weakness in their system (in terms of a customer base that they don't support well that you can support better) and exploit it.

    Cheers,

I don't know if i should worry about PR in the beginning. First i need to drive traffic PR will come it self.

Noob Question: How do you target your visitors. I see that alot in these forums, but i just dont get it.
