Hi I am new. Well I’m not new to Internet Marketing and online money making but I am new to this forum. I was reading through the posts, and checking the links people have and am quite amazed at the fact that you people have directories – paid ones- and people actually pay to get registered. I never thought that was possible. My question is that can you make a living off of making directories and selling submission?
for starting player, it is not possible to make a living just by submission. I have started doing this directory stuff for almost 3 months and spends $$$ already and yet have to receive much submission. However, it is a good starting point for beginners and indeed there's people who will buy the submission from your site. good luck!
This is a good topic. I am considering starting a new directory so I shall look forward to everyone's replies.
It's getting more and more difficult though. Lots of submission people charging couple of dollars to submit links in hundreds of directories. Just make a search in DP, or in services, and get submited in 150 to 500 directories for $1-$10...
It takes focussed sustainable marketing and support along with $ money to invest and lots of time but the Directory Market is very vibrant But quality, differentiators and unique features are necessary to see a ROI
Its quite hard to get into the directory 'game' now - it really is totally overwhelmed at the moment with people starting new directories every single day! In terms of making a living off a directory i think thats near on impossible. Sure you can make some good money but never enough to give up your day job - at the end of the day though if you're wise and do make some money from your directory the best idea is to reinvest it into your directory.
that have very high PR? At some point the links are WORTH something due to the higher PR right? If so, at what point (PR rank) are links worth something and assuming there is light at the end of the PR tunnel what are some ways to get higher PR in a reasonably amount of time? (maybe wrong forum, but what the heck) mauiman
Have to agree whole heartedly. The monetary perception of directories is a little skewed. Building a successful business based on a directory will take considerable time, money, and dedication. As a directory owner I will tell you that 60% or more of the submission requests I receive daily are for free listings. The other 40% come from web masters who recogize the value of being placed higher up in a directory. If you can make your directory pay for it's hosting consistantly for one year, you may be on the right road to building a successful directory. BTW... of the 60% of free listings I view daily for inclusion, only about 10% of those are of any quality at all. YES! this is where the work comes in.
This market is saturated with paid directories, so you'll face a lot of tough competition. I'm gonna estimate that only the top 5% of all directories are really making any decent income. Also keep in mind that most directory owners also do other jobs on the side to supplement their income, such as running other websites or freelancing.
I have quite a few directories. They are free and easy to set up, they don't take much of your resources and if you already have a few established sites you just link back to your directory and that's it. All of my directories are paid so all i do is wait for the email to arrive saying: "You have another link to moderate", approve it, done! You've made a few bucks. I would not rely on this for consistent income though.
This is what i am planning too So how many submission you are getting.... Can you give more details? If you dont want to publish them here, i will aprreciate if you can PM me. Thanks.
This is a fantastic quote can i use it, for replying to posts asking if its easy to make money of directories? Rep Added
You just see the trends coming up. People think that they can do n earn much just by making directories and making submissions but that is not that easy as it seems.A lot more is required to be done to earn a good money out of that.
That is so true, which is why I no longer use directory submission services. Few people know which ones to submit to, and those who run submission services normally don´t.
This may be somewhat of an undercut but is there a way to find out the viability of a submitting service? Or is a person using this service basically rolling the dice and hoping to come up 7/11? Basically I'm looking for a ratings site or page for these services.

Personally i'd say PR and reputation... although obviously you need traffic to make money... it depends on the individual views of the person in question... some people rate PR higher than traffic, others rate it the other way around. Ideally a good balance of both is good...
