obviously page titles are very important in SE's, but i have heard people say that having the same page title on every page is a NO NO. is this because these people have differant content on their pages and want to build traffic to those individual pages? my site has a lot of differant content, but i am only selling shirts, so would it be best for me to have a title that has my shirt keywords on every page?? thank you very much
Hi calisonder, I think you should probably use a bit of both techniques. Have a few words that basically say 'shirts for sale' and then a few words about the specific page like, 'sizing information'. But remember to use as few words as possible to say what you want to say and do not use any stop words. Hope this helps.
You shall have different title tag, meta description tag for each page. And for the keywords "shirt", you can try to make it appear in the titles/desciption tag of your pages.
Its really important to have diffrent title and meta tags in the point of view of search engines. Lets say even if you are selling shirts - there can be diff. categories, - Plain Shirts, Cotton Shirts, Trendy Shirts - So By this you can target different keywords for shirts.
Your title tag and meta description must be based on the content of your page. Does every page of your site has a shirts word in the content or the topic is about shirts?
Do a search on other phrases that people search for associated with T-shirts. I'm sure there must be at least 50 phrases that you can target your site towards.
Man we have had so many of this exact same thread recently!!!! Different page titles is the way to go!
The more different titles and descriptions you have for your pages the better you will do for different pages in the search engines.
Just on all the new title pages, make sure those titles are correct to the anchor text links you have linking to it. Otherwise there really is no point to say the least.
Calisonder forgive my curiosity but why are you so worried about your website if you’re selling shirts. Your selling something, not trying to earn money off of ads. Yes, optimizing your website is good but did you know that a high traffic does not – and yes there have been reports on this – mean a higher sellout of products. No. If you want to become famous selling a product search engine optimization is not really the way to go and the title is way to little to be bothered about. Instead install an affiliate program. You want customers and the best way to get customers is to pay commission to those who refer you. An affiliate program will allow you to target your audience – people who want to buy and not just browse the site for fun and waste bandwidth. Furthermore, competing for a high position for shirts will take much more then simple title change. Concentrate on presenting your shirts in attractive ways with clear and crisp pictures. So try investing your time in what will get you results with least effort and that is affiliate marketing not SEO. And if you insist on SEO, please do not fret over the title. Thank you.
I agree with the above posts, but thats not what he asked. Maybe he wants to sell ads... Its best to keep on topic, but I do totally agree!
The other pages on my site do have more meaningful and unique page titles. And I do have a sitemap that I keep up to date and submit to Google. But given that I use Blogger and it generates the pages from one main template, all of the blog content pages on my site have the same title. Is there a way around this or should I be terribly concerned? Rob
In my opinion pages should have different titles. This is not only for se but to the visitors as well. Giving distinct titles will give this pages a brief view of its contents.
Hey, no sooner than I had posted my question (about how to get unique page titles on my Blogger-generated blog pages), well I got the exact answer I needed. Scott Kingery over at Tech.Life.Blogged outlines the hack here: http://www.techlifeweb.com/2006/07/changing-way-blogger-presents-title.html Big props go out to Improbulus at A Consuming Experience for pointing me in the right direction. Hope this comes in handy for someone else! Rob www.2Dolphins.com
Huh?? So you can only do SEO if your making money off AdSense??? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard since becoming an SEO. Number #1 reason to learn SEO is to drive traffic to a website no matter if you sell products or adsense. So your telling me increased traffic won't turn into increased shirt sales??? Think about it. Anyway. Make each page title unique and no more than 4 words. Use Google's Keyword research tool in AdWords to come up with a list of popular shirt related keywords people are searching for and use them in your page titles and page headers. This will help allot.
Although I agree that an affiliate program is ok in this instance, I disagree that SEO is not important here. It's not as if its an either-or/mutually exclusive situation. Go for affiliate programs AND SEO.
