Was thinking about starting a humor site and was wondering how well/what kind of range the clicks for humor sites pay? Just a general range will help decide if it is lucrative enough to get into. I'm sure it's not a lot but generally how much? Anyone with humor sites with have input?
I wouldn't think they would be too high. Its entertainment, the whole entertainment niche is one of the lower paying niche.
Besides only getting a few pennies per click, the click through rate is awful. No one clicks, they are there to read jokes and move on to the next one. Even if the adsense ads are well targeted, they just don't click on them. If you're going to put up a humor site, do it for the fun of it, because the're pretty tough squeezing any money out of them. I've tried adsense, amazon stuff that's related, cafepress, nothing seems to monetize.
Gee - I knew it would be low but is it less than 5-10 cents per? I think I have a way of getting focused ads and can get some sizeable viral traffic a half-way decent clickthrough and I would be ok but are you all saying it's like .10 or less?
You are still too overly optimistic. 5 to 10-cents a click is BEST case scenario. You'll most likely get that for a while, but then you'll plummet to .1-cent a click. The niche is overly saturated. Your best way to achieve a decent income is to get your traffic up there and then use CPM ad banners to get paid per impressions.
Don't expect much. In fact, you'll be getting something on a level of what the proxy sites and arcade sites get.
