I have homemade videos and they are 54mb per video. How do i decrease the size of the video.
One more thing-When some video is uploaded on youtube and it gets converted to .swf, does it loose a lot of quality?

decrease KBPS before video encoding. Size/quality balance depends of codecs effeciency which you use.

uploading to youtube decreases the quality to 320x240 pixels yes...
you can upload it to dailymotion.com if you don't want your quality to get bad

I'm using blaze media pro. Very satisfied with its capabilities especially when it comes to shrinking videos. Give it a try.

The fastest video converter I have ever tried is WinAVI. Before WinAVI, I used TMPGEnc for all my video encoding needs. It used to take over an hour to convert an 80 minutes XviD AVI file to VCD (MPEG-1) format. But in WinAVI it takes only 20 minutes!!!

And the interface is very user-friendly. Best of all it supports almost all formats including RM and WMV.
