So i've seen some directory submission vendors selling up to 1,000 submissions. My friend in the biz says there's only 450 that are live and accepting submissions. Anyone know if thats right or are tne 1,000 submissions worth it? -Erick
It depends a lot on how quickly the directories approve the submittals, I think in some cases some of the submittals will never be approved maybe due to closure, no support, neglect or any other number of reasons 450 from 1,000 in what timeline to date?
Directory submissions are worth, basically what you pay for them... not much. If you're trying to rank, I don't give much credence. If you want to get indexed, they are a great tool.
I agree that they are for the most point useless I've found getting 1 PR4+ link to be more useful than 50 directory links
a few months ago i would say that dir submission was the solution to my problems. as the time goes i see that they are not so effective! I had ranked in some great keywords, because of dir submission but this happened almost 1 year ago! Now it just helps.. noot much!
Once I got a very large list of directories, however, many of the directories are not free any more and some of them are offline. I did some experiments and found that high PR directories don't approve free submission very often. Actually, many of them never approved my site (no reject either). IMHO, for new sites, directory submission still works. However, at certain point, it won't help much any more. Article submission works much better to get traffic and help SEO for 'old' sites. However, article submission is a long term effort. bear
It's around 1500 -3000 free directories, and I have a list of 1023 free, general directories here: www.hkhangfong.com, you can go and submit your website there. If you choosed the right category, and if you are right website, around 1 month, about 60% of them will approve your submission. I submitted to this list in 40 days (I submitted very carefully), and got most of them approved.
Well in regards to the debate of the value of directory submissions, I think they work excellent for smaller clients. I've had regional clients come to me with 0 back links and 0 keyword rankings (or close to it). After a round of 400 submissions and our standard optimization they see excellent placement.
If you don't think u will get any actual hits directly from your listing you should not bother with such directory.
its not about hits, its about an affordable way to build back links and thus improve keyword placement
And this is how you can determine if the link is worth it or not. If that page containing your backlink gets no traffic, the backlink itself wont be worth much. Even shoemoney had a nice little podcast about it. http://www.shoemoney.com/2006/03/27/directorys-what-is-up-with-them/
