Phynder, that's quite funny! Anyway, my question is: can I have to tip waiters less now? Because coming from Europe, where tipping isn't that expected, at least in most eu countries, it's something I cannot get used very easily, just like spicy food, turn on red and american football!
There's also a stipulation about forum posters being required to pay mods the same minimum. Did anybody mention this is a great boon for illegal aliens? Their competitive advantage increases in the short term and increases their wages long term.
I find it ironic that people risk live and limb to come to the US because the wages and quality of life are higher. Meanwhile everyone is on this minimum wage hike, all the while, even McDonalds pay more than minimum wage alread. What a waste of legislative time. Aren't their more important issues to work on in Washington. Well, once again, democrats prove they are completely out of touch with EVERYONE!
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." This means it is unconstitutional for the federal government to set a minimum wage. Also, by setting a higher minimum wage you are not "giving" anything to the poor, you are just setting the bar higher for entry into the labor market. If the minimum wage is $7.50, the employee needs to be worth $7.50 in the market to become employed.
An employee must generate more revenue than it costs to keep them on staff. People will be fired or prices will go up. Businesses aren't about the turn their billion dollar profits back down through the work force and accept a lower profit margin. That hurts stocks. And what could possibly be more important than your stock value?
business hire people because they need the workers so the business can make more money not because they are nice
Has no bearing on my post. Canada's minimum wages are lower in many areas than that of the US. It's unemployment rate is also higher at 6.1%. But not a peep from gworld on that. Just "boo America."
That's because Canadians without jobs actually spend time looking for employment. The US probably has more unemployed that aren't categorized as part of the labor workforce. At least this is what I remember reading in one of my college Econ' classes. I could be totally wrong.
It has been constitutionally valid since the establishment of the FLSA of 1938, and court review. on the basis of interstate commerce, or comparative/competitive advantage among the states, on the basis of an unfair market position (due to wages deemed substandard).
This increase is sort of meaningless most states minimum wage was already higher than that of the federal govt's level.
One of their formerly unemployed was in "Playboy" again recently. I think the unemployed Canadians just cross the border and find fortune and fame down here.
Thats why it was just a political thing. They really aren't affecting many states, but they make themselves look like heros to the "little man' Using the ignorant for benefit again.
Not going to read into this other than is hasn't been raised for a while, might as well do so to keep up with inflation...
Ah, it's all just for show. Make the dems feeling like they are actually doing something, when in fact they are doing nothing.
I haven't seen anywhere in Wisconsin where the minimum wage is set above the federal minimum. Can anyone else verify other states?
