someone made a copy of my site!

i wrote a small script that records every url that refers a visitor to my website.

today i found a url which was supposedly checking the text similarities between my site and 4you365.com. a copyscape.com url.

and guess what - they are EXACTLY the same!!!

someone has lifted my site, as html, and put it up. they've removed the google ads and put up some of their own buttons and stuff.

the site isn't functioning of course, because mine is written in php - they've just copied whatever they found as html.

i have the domain registrant's contact. i am going to send him an email. do you think is should also shoot an email to google??

really confused out of my wits here. and i just had a root canal treatment :( shux.

Contact them, and contact their web host. I have had success getting people to take my content down...

wow that sucks mate. yeah send them a DMCA notice and also send it to their webhost as well.

If the loser wont take it down start putting heaps of pressure on the webhost and threathening legal action until they buckle and remove the site.

If you have deep pockets you might want to sue them if they are costing you lots of $.

just search for a DMCA notice to send them

DMCA - Digital Millennium Copyright Act (if I remember correctly). It's US Copyright legislation that protects the electronic publisher. Find out more by visiting the US Copyright Office.

DMCA will protect you only in case you have put your script on earlier than them.

So as soon as I upload unique content to my site, I own the rights? Exclusive rights?

Yes, if it is your content and it is unique, then you are the copyright owner.
