Now there's a name you don't hear too often. I used to know a "Shilpa" about 20 years ago.

    Col :)

lol she is only trying to carry out the crying drama cos her perfume production has been halted.
Anyway for Shilpa, when you get paid that much an amount to be on a show, you should be ready to face the music also. Although in this case it was the politicians that got over involved.

Did you guys know Jermaine called Jackie "white trash" is this not just as racist to white people as calling Shilpa poppadom is? Seems its being taken way over propertion just because Shilpa is Indian, it never was racism and why people in India are burning flags and going crazy when they havent even seen the show, must hang on the medias every word.

I agree that it was uncalled for, but the controversy has probably gone a little out of hand. I am not exactly sure why the governments had to get involved.

Coming back to the topic, Goody has had her career shattered. Her perfume line has been withdrawn, and she's been branded a racist and bully. She's of mixed origin too btw. I am not condoning her actions, but she's probably got more than what she deserved.

No companies are willing to be associated with her, because of the touchy topic that racism is in multicultured Britain. That may change once the show goes out of public memory though. And Jack is currently in the house hobnobbing with Lloyd.

Shilpa might have been prepared for that when she did enter the house . Racism will always continue to exist, and it is only when a celebrity is the butt of it that it causes such a hue and cry.

Germaine Greer made an excellent point in the Guardian, when she mentioned that it was the term Paki which was taken to. She added that if an Australian was called Aussie, it wouldn't have caused such a huge furore because Aussieness is OK, while Paki isn't. I know Paki is an offensive term in the Uk.

And while I don't watch the show or hardly cared much for it, the media attention has made me know a few of the contestants a little better.

As for racism, although technically an attack by a coloured person on a white smacks of racism too, we have always seen it as a concept where the latter attacks the former. It probably dates back to the past when Whites were supposedly called the superior community because they ruled over the coloured.

The other thing is that Shilpa Shetty has become more popular than Shahrukh Khan and even Amitabh Bachchan in the UK.

The controversy exists because the show refused to intervene with the bullying, simple as that.

The C4 guys must take responsibility for that. But any publicity is good, even if it is negative publicity, and they probably didn't expect such a huge public backlash.

The bullying of Jodi Marsh last year was far worse, there where 6 people attacking her, or the girl from baywatch when that Pete Burns was saying sh*t to her all the time. BB didn't intervene then and they shouldn't now there ratings are up because people LIKE to see fighting and arguing. All these people complaining just shouldn't watch the show if it offends them so much.

Apparently she went into big brother because she wants to make it into Hollywood  Doubt she will get that far but she will be doing a lot of work in the UK when she leaves big brother as theres already a lot of big contracts being offered to her. Definitely the whole racism thing is going to make her a lot more money than if it didn't happen.

I lived in London for awhile working for CityBank then moved back to New York. I had couple of Australians and Jewish American friends working there. One time when we were in the pub, there are guys who think they are better than Australians and called my friend "Jew Boy". England is just too nasty. I think BB did great job Broadcasting thing like this. Borat tend to show some dark side of American south. I think these should come out in the open. You can't be ignorant IDIOTS.

Yes, it does. The controversy rests squarely with the broadcaster because they pointedly refused to intervene ... except when the bully came out of the house when they shielded her from the crowd (there wasn't one) and also from the press. It also appeared that they had taken steps to forewarn the contestant in question so they broke their own 'rules' about non-intervention with issues on the outside world.

Unfortunately Shilpa is 100% when she said something like Is this what the people of Britain are becoming...or something along those lines.
It is a great thing that this happened in the respect that it has shown people in the UK who have been living in their own cosy little world with their heads up their A**es that our country is full of people like Goody and the number is growing rapidly.
They have no respect, are ignorant and selfish.
BB should be congratulated and not apologise. The prog has opened peoples eyes as to what is really going on in this once great country of ours.We are spawning what Americans call "trailer park trash" on a grand scale and it only getting worse.
