Article Submission: List of article directories?

    Hello,

I've read here on DP that article submission is a very useful way of increasing the number of backlinks to a site. I have a couple of questions regarding this technique.

    1) Is it okay to include links to your site (using keywords as the anchor text) from within the body/content of the article or do the article websites only accept links in the footer. If we can link from within the text of the article, how many links do you generally include (and are acceptable)?

    2) Is there anywhere I can find a comprehensive list of sites that the article should be submitted to? How many sites do people tend to submit their article to on average?

I would be greatful if you guys could help me out with the above questions, as I'm new to this whole thing.

I am an article submitter and I recommend that you do not put any links in your article text.Only put links in your author-bio and that too not more than 3.

Also would like to add that it is pointless submitting to too many article directories.
In my guess the top 20-25 are more than enough as these are the ones that will bring traffic to your site.

I disagree with that. In my estimation, the more the merrier.

I will also agree that you shouldn't put active links in the body of your article.

Here is a list of article submission sites <-- Those all accept HTML.

In my experience, I agree that no html should be in article body. Also, usually, the more sites you submit to, the better results you can get. However, it is always a better solution to use different versions of the article on different sites.

I would like to clarify that the earlier statement was made taking into consideration that you were paying someone for submitting articles.

I completely agree that more sites you submit the more traffic you get but most of the sites do not have any traffic as such and so in my opinion no point submitting to more than say 25-50 directories if your site has already been indexed by the major SE's (pointless as google would see that the same content has been submitted to all sites and therefore after a while you would only be left with a backlink)

The best the other sites can do is to get your article indexed into google as most of them are indexed by google regularly. So if you have a new site I would definitely recommend that you submit your articles to as many dirs as possible.

Also if backlinks are so important to you (from PR1,2 article directories) go on and submit it to as many dirs as possible. However if you have a good PR for your site try to focus on other link building methods instead of submitting it to PR1 and PR2 article dirs(However do submit your article to the high PR sites).

However if you submit different versions of the same article to the article directories it could prove to be more benificial to your site.

    Regards
    Al

Here is a very good list in order of PR, it contains aprox. 450 sites I think.

You can also buy the software to do the subs for you, don't know about how secure is it but the list is very well researched.

Or then there's this one with 2237 article directories. I haven't yet tested all of them, so maybe not all work, but each url is unique (no duplicates!!) and there are no blogspot blogs on this list.
