Hey, I'm on a domain-name roll today ICANN plans on creating some new tlds, including a .xxx extention. hmmm CNN ICANN and some more discussions and some people say this is not new news at all
I just don't see the point of adding something like this xxx extension. Do they think all the millions of .com/.net/.org porn sites are going to drop everything and switch to the .xxx world? I see this as a step towards increasing the porn on the internet...
There seems to be a steady flow of new top level domains being opened up - and to be honest I'm getting a little sick of all of them. I can see that perhaps there might be a legitimate need for .xxx, but having TLDs like .jobs, .travel or .god is going to seriously start confusing the average internet user.
Lost of people would put the order in as .com, .org, .net, everything else. Reason, .com is obviously the most heavily marketed type of domain, and .org would be next (charities advertise a lot).
Maybe main point of this is screwing new (info biz) extensions before they start competing with com. there has been some obvious ignorance, and they were still growing. Info and org has equal # of regs..
I'm a fan of .info domains. I also like .biz domains. Even tho I have dictionary word .coms I still like my .biz ones more.
To be honest I don't see how .xxx is going to increase the amount of porn on the internet. If someone wants to make a porn site then they'll do it and will find a domain name to do it on, regardless of whether there's a dedicated .xxx tld available. Now if somehow all the porn sites could be forced to switch over to the .xxx tld then I think it'd be a good move to bring it in, but failing that I'm left wondering what the actual point of it all is. Being in the UK I rank .com then .co.uk then probably .net then .org. For me there's then an astronomical drop to the .info and .tv sort of stuff, which I've got no interested in having whatsoever. Did the .eu TLD ever come about?
having xxx as an extention may help some sites with filtering...and eventually browsers too,...they should make it LAW to do so if you have sexually explicit material. with the argument of sites not moving to a new extention....if you owned lovelysexymenandwomen.com, wouldnt you prefer porn.xxx ?? there will be the usual race for the faves.
Bob Parsons talks in his blog about law and forcing all adult content onto .xxx domains, but that would not be enforceable
I can see where the xxx will lead to more adult sites as names that are not otherwise available, will quickly get snatched up; however I don't think it'll be a flood nor to much sucess. To that end, I think all sites classified as adult should be given the first chance at the new extensions, on a voluntary basis, to migrate their .com to the .xxx - again, I do think it should be voluntary though. I like the .xxx idea, it will allow parents to better block sites they don't their kids logging on to. The real fight will come if existing sites are forced to move and by who's subjective definition will something be classified?
I honestly don't see how .xxx will lead to a huge increase in sites. If someone wants to start a porn site they will find a domain name and start one. Yes .xxx will make it easier for them to find a name, but it's not going to be the deciding factor on whether they start one or not. The only increase I think will come from existing porn sites who create additional .xxx version of their .com domains and mirror content, or existing sites who start entirely new sites on the .xxx tld. I also don't think .xxx will be of much use to parents as long as all the porn on .com/.net etc still exists. Yes, a parent will be able to block anything at .xxx, but since that tld doesn't exist at the minute anyway, it's going to do little to help them stop their kids seeing things they shouldn't. They create the new tld, parents block it, we're back to exactly the same situation we're in now. I know it's impossible, but I for one would be very much in favour of moving all porn sites across to the .xxx domain. This would mean if you wanted to find porn you could, but if you wanted to block it you could do that also.
IANA plans in time to force all of the adult community to the .xxx extension in an effort to clean up the internet, it will not be an easy transition but that’s the plan and since IANA can do what ever they choose the adult industry will have to abide.
Yes, its a definate although not available yet. It will be a different type of registration though than .co.uk and .com It will be similar to the .ie system which requires a lot more paperwork and is a lot more expensive
I think the main point is for registrars to make money. Everyone who owns a .com needs to buy a .net, .org, .info, .biz, and .everythingElse just to defend there .com. /*tom*/
