OK, fire away! "It's Gotta Be Red"

    OK, sock it to me...!

    It's Gotta Be Red!

Any suggestions to give me for my site will be more than welcome. I have plenty of plans for expansion, but at the moment you can see what the basic idea is.

    1) I am interested in any ideas as to how on earth to place the store so it is more visible!

    2) Also, what do you think of the red squares by the Adsense block? I hear some people saying this is definitely anti-TOS - I'm gonna get rid of them forthwith if I think it's dodgy..!

I think that you should let that shop part on top and in the right side, in the place of those adsense you should create a category for your text.
I think that even though "itsgottabered" your color scheme still needs some work , after few minutes on the site that red becomes disturbing, it makes my eyes hurt. The logo looks interesting.

Hmmm...take a look at what you're serving for adsense ads...
It looks like some ads are totally irrelevant to what you're
    promoting on your site.

Your site doesn't have to have such contrast. You don't need
too much red to be red if you know what I mean. Since
the product pictures will most likely contain much red, I'd say
you design your site with the user in mind and throw out the
red boxes and stuff. Just keep the logo red or something.

Makes your eyes hurt - ho ho, thanks for the comment :)

That was an initial colour I chose, FF3300, but you're quite right, I think it's time for something more like a nice dark red!

I am working on a version now where the text is at the left-hand side - we will see. But it is also important for the text to be before the a-store, so the SE's pick up the content and don't negatively weight the site!

OK, OK - it's time to cut down on the red! You're right, the red doesn't have to overwhelm the visitor... In fact, the red products might actually stand out more...

Yes, some of the ads are still a little irrelevant, but that might be because I introduced mod-rewrite the other day, so all the links have changed and Adsense may not have picked it up yet. But there are some strange ones, like the stupid Yeah Lyrics links - can't figure that out!

More content is on the way, though probably on a higher-level site that I am working on. Off to fiddle with the colours/template first, though.

Thanks for taking the trouble guys, and for the advice.

No, you're right, it is messy, I haven't really done the CSS side yet.

And as an aside, you are right about Amazon! Tho it's slightly OT, I've been thinking that myself recently - there is SO much stuff going on on their page it's ridiculous, I think they could do with a serious pruning session!

Annoying - my hosting company (Netfirms) has had quite a bit of downtime the last few days, I am not impressed (though I have been with the rest of their service). They must know (down)time is money...

the site is up for me now, it looks good, however it seems to definitely be catered to a specific market...

one thing I can say, is that the text doesnt seem to grab the reader, and make them interested in reading it, or at least thats the case with me

I think it would be good idea to get a cms you like and clean it up a bit. Having a cms will help you out in the long run.

I agree. It would look quite nice on a cms. I don't mind seeing dark reds and soft reds but not too many bright reds, as it's not good on the eys.

I like the site though and it's niche. Well done. ;)

I would create a page on MySpace with a similar template / design / colors, and use MySpace to send traffic to the store.

    My 2 cents! :)

I know I am colour blind, but that "red" sure looks a bit too orange.

Nice idea, done! I'll be blogging on there every now and then - I needed somewhere to rant anyway (won't bore you with it, it's not for your benefit anyway :))

I see that they do not use "nofollow". And also blog pages seem to be high-ranking by default?! At least according to the Google Toolbar.

    markowe

P.S. two cents - sounds like my Adsense earnings this month

That's strange, someone else told me that too, are you using a laptop, or TFT screen? Anyway, it's a web safe colour, #ff3300. Though I am definitely going to change it anyway on the advice of various people!

The CMS idea is great too - it's probably what I need, only I didn't know much about it. My provider offers Joomla! Good enough, what do you think?

Yes Joomla is excellent I think. :) Could be just right but if you need a red template you might need one built since I don't know any red templates around the web for Joomla.

I am just finding out about Joomla - I was wondering why a lot of sites around the net are looking samey! I didn't realise people were using CMSs so much, and there's me trying to learn css and php the hard way..!

Well, I'll have to come up with an original template - don't want it looking too much like all those blog sites anyway...
