I went to P.F. Changs for lunch yesterday. It's always packed. Despite the rush, I had an excellent waiter.

I tipped him 20% without thinking about it. So, he made about $15 right there. He had other tables too. I bet they have to do at least $150 (tips+wages) a shift.

Are you certain you'll be wanting to live in Southern Cal?
Many Americans make less than $450/ week, and some live in decent places.
Sacramento (for example), in North Central Cal (West of San Fran), still has plenty of cheaper apartments, even in many nice, safe suburban neighborhoods.

The summer is very hot in Sacramento, but Springtime starts in late Jan (a great time of year to live there), and the warm Fall season tends to end in mid-Dec. During your short 'winter', the coldest it ever gets is 31 degrees, with no snow :)

    :)
    • I was lucky enough to enjoy a great vacation in San Diego, Ca. several years ago.
    • At the 'high-rent' spot close to the beach, they had a little shop selling 'genuine New York pizza'.
    • It was huge, flat slices without much content, but they sure were huge and flat (I suggest Chigago Pizza, either thin crust or deep) :)
    • Please, do not order pizza anywhere near Sacramento, Ca. (a place I lived at years later) they are clueless!!!
    • If anyone has start-up money, first learn what Chicago thin-crust pizza actually tastes like (awsome), then start a pizza chain in Sacramento, Ca.
    • You will end up rich, beyond your wildest dreams :D

    Great memories:
I wish I could do that vacation all over again.

/ I've been to New York too, but mainly remember huge sandwiches at a deli near Wall Street.
