Like all taxes (in the US at least), it is yet another way for liberals to suck blood from a turnip.

Oddly enough, though many here would call me a "liberal," I don't support it. It isn't the government's damn business what I wish to do for my children.

Agreed. It's sad really. I've seen people go bankrupt because of the death tax.

Estate tax is a tax on legally challenged, it can be avoided by putting property in a trust for example. There are other ways too.

I don't have kids and have no rich relatives

so tax the shit out of of inhertences,

poor little millionare kids, not getting a fair shake

Also isn't the estate tax for people inheriting more then like 2 million dollars?

    http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=108143,00.html

so essentailly if you are not leaving your kids more then 2 million its doen't even effect you

You are missing the point, Ferret. It's not the government's money and they have no legitimate right to take it. It is money that has already been taxed.

We are not talking just about millionaires. Inherited property, such as family farms, wipes out a lot of inheritance with estate taxes because frequently the family mambers cannot pay the tax.

To say that you are not concerned because you do not have kids or rich relatives is pretty self-centered. What if you did have kids and worked very hard and took risks to build a successful business? What if you died unexpectedly? You might not care any longer once you are gone, but what are you leaving for your kids? A business or farm can have a lot of worth on paper, but not enough cash to pay estate taxes.

Remember, it is not the government's money and they have no right to it.

that farm thing is just a talking point, it hardly if ever happens

    http://www.responsiblewealth.org/press/rwnews/2001/estate_tax_nyt_farms.html

everything is self centered, when was last time you heard someone who uses social programs saying we should get rid of social programs, half of the right wing agenda is 100% self centered, tax breaks for ME, no programs for THEM

well if they made all that money inside this great country of ours maybe not, they could have moved to some country where there is no estate tax, couldn't they?

But wait then they wouldn't have made all that money, so essentially people want the freedom and safety of america to make fortune it, but in the end don't want to pay the bill, deadbeats.
