Hi, In Wordpress, I have indicated at http://www.weight-loss-discovery.com my permalinks structure as : /%category%/%postname%/ Some of my page url's don't look right ... http://www.weight-loss-discovery.com/healthy-weight-loss/ Default category (named changed to Weight Loss News): http://www.weight-loss-discovery.com/category/weight-loss-news/ http://www.weight-loss-discovery.com/category/weight-loss-supplements/hoodia-gordonii/ Why is that word "category" in there ? How can I fix this so that the real category name shows up followed by the post name (post names not showing up), and not that word ? Also, is it better to indicate the permalink as : /%category%/%postname%.html What are you using successfully ? Thank you.
maybe click on the 'Update Permalinks; tab again and it'll work again .. worked for me on my blog. Clear your cache and it should be fine. I've heard the /%postname%/ has the greatest SEO benefit but I prefer to have a category in front of it because my categories are all keywords too.
The 'category' will still show up if you click into the category called Weight Loss News as it tells people they are sitting in the category section. I prefer uising %postname% so my final post url will look like mydomain.com/my-post.html but again, keep in mind what I said above as it still comes into play using %postname% only.
In the same area where you set your permalink structure, you can also change your category slug. Default is /category but you can change it to whatever you want like /cat or something more seo'd if you want.
mdvaldosta can you remove the /category/ so it would be just the domain name & category name not domain/category/category-name/...I have been looking about for this. Im not talking about the final post url.
I don't beleive it's possible, there has to be some sort of category slug even if it's just /a. There aren't any plugins or hacks to do this either that I've found.
Tod, I'm not sure why you have a longer format with the date - do the SEs want to see that ? Woudl I have to adjust my .htaccess file at all as per this thread : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=121693 My .htaccess file is set at 777 right now, as per the advice on Brandon Hong's videos that I bought. I guess there are different ways of doing this. Is there a best way for SE rankings ?
Stick with /%postname%.html as the longer url just looks messy. You might need to manually update your .htaccess code if you cant do an auto job.
