When did you get started and why?

    How do you like it?

    Any tips?

like dropshipping? Its very profitable and very tedious.
If you mean starting something like UPS, it is very profitable, and again, pretty boring

How do you find 'real dropshipping contacts', as opposed to paying $19.95 for someones 'dropship list' (which might have old outdated info)

lol drop shipping is not import/export

    most dropship sites/companies are scams/middlemen..

i mean real import/export... as in buying products from another country and selling them in another

yeah exactly. my dad used to do import/export back in his days and my cousin is a huge import/exporter based in hong kong. thats what i really want to get into because of the travel and plus i think it would be fun.

he travels all around the world and probably has enough frequent flyer miles to go to the moon lol.

i looked into it but i am no expert. my dad gave me tips but he hasnt done it in about 15 years so he doesnt have the contacts or anything anymore.

It's easy to contribute related questions (for example)

    Tips for dealing with:

    -Customs
    -Fraud
    -Duties, tarrifs, and various taxes
    -Intenational Insurance
-Finding the best suppliers without wasting too much time

Import/export is huge biz, and how to get started is a great question :)

Funny, because my father used to do it too, but I moved to another industry, and made some money, and now I am working on marketing, internet and real world.
I can tell you that you probably want to buy in: China, Bangladesh, Vietnam ,and Indonesia. Find a good factory, and negotiate prices.
You'll need a license from any country to import and export products

I don’t have any experience in with this type of business but have also been thinking of starting something similar. The problem is I don’t know how to start or even where to start??? How do we protect ourselves from scams and fraud???

Actually, the markets for the us services and products is very promising. Unfortunately most shops do not sell internationally and loose really good profit. For example just check the price of ipod in US versus Brazil and Greece

I think that's the problem everyone has. Finding people that want to sell is easy but finding people that want to buy is an entirely different story.

I am currently setting up a business which will be helping people import direct from Chinese factories, we will deal with all price negotiation, transit to your doorstep, customs clearance etc... So you can just concentrate on marketing and sales.

That's more or less what I was thinking of doing but I guess you have to have a good amount of contacts.

Yea well I have a decent amount of people in place ready to help me.. but part of the service I will be offering will be to find new contact and establish a relationship with them... I am jumping in the deep end and going to live in shanghai in a few months where i plan to visit factory’s, employ staff, translators etc..

I think your location in England also helps a lot. You can count on a good amount of Chinese speaking people if you want and also have good ties with China because of Hong Kong. In Portugal I can find many Chinese but few really know how to speak Portuguese so communication would be a problem and even though we have close ties with Macau that territory doesn’t have the same potential as Hong Kong.
