    Hi there,

I am new to SEO and would like to hear what you guys think about article submission.

    Here is my experience:

A niche site I built 3 months ago got all pages indexed on Google (some supplemental though) and currently ranked #2 for a low competitive keywords (1.5m competition and 1XX search according to overture). I didn't pay much attention to this site, just wrote 3 unique articles and use isnare and articlemarketer to submit it to thousands of site, and a few (3-4) high pr links from sites with related theme.

Honestly I was impressed with the result (6xx backlinks according to yahoo, 8 backlinks on Google and some traffic from Google everyday) with the money and the time I spent on that site (at least I have already made the money back from adsense).

My question is: If you can get thousands of those low-value link at a really cheap price (say $1 for 100 back links on the anchor text you want), so that you can have more time building "quality link" yourself, is it worth the investment?

Don't buy links just submit your site to web directories. There's lot of directories out there.

This is true. There are heaps out there and most of them are worthless for backlink PR value. Only valued for contextuality. Why? Because where your link goes is soooooooo deep it, the page will only get PR if the home page is PR8 or higher.

Article submission draws a lot of traffic. Remember not all your traffic comes from SEs. Someone may also see tour article and follow the link to your site.

Janna122003;2152775, is correct, if you submit it to high pr directory's, your site will get seen and fast! I do this for every client to 25+ good directory's, since compo is not that big in most terms they jump to number one fairly easy.

"As a site owner, you want to seek links from good pages that are related to the terms you want to be found for. Linking strategy is not a trick as many get rich quick merchants would have you believe. Links for the sake of links have no value whatsoever. Indeed, they can damage your rankings. So forget about link farms and other such nonsense. A small number of inbound links from great, relevant sites will be much more valuable than many links from low-traffic, irrelevant sites.

However, you should not become obsessed by link popularity alone. Treat linking as one important aspect of your Search Engine Optimization strategy. Decide how much time and effort you are prepared to invest in relation to your other activities and be disciplined about your approach. Monitor your results and adapt your strategy as necessary."

Some backlinks are so damaging that you need to politely ask them to be removed.

I'm sorry but I have never heard that a back link of any kind can actually HURT you. I disagree with that statement. But I would be interested in seeing proof of that. :)

Why? To kill you competition? :)

there was rumor that if you have a large number of link farm links your site will be penalized but I don't believe in that...

I heard that to, I have yet to see solid proof of that myself. Still id rather do the real deal in SEO so that there is no way to get penalized.
