The reason why the NY Times is the biggest NY paper is because people choose to buy it. The reason why Fox News is the most watched cable news outlet is because people choose to watch it. There is not much more annoying to me than people crying ''foul'' against the ''media'', no matter which side they are on. If anything, the reason why you whine is because of your own sides failures at capitalism. Aside from government run media, which is essentially what the whiners are proposing, capitalism will always define what is published and produced, not liberal or conservative bias.
I have been saying this for some time now. News outlets builds a user base, just like sites do. When you have a user base, you try to satisfie their need instead of hunting after others which isn't as effective as trying to keep what you already have. That's why guardian.co.uk bash US on a regular bases. That's why FOX News support republican values. It's revenue that matters.
First time here in the politics section. I am not so sure that what you say is correct. I think the most blatant case of media bias that just blew me away was about a month ago. Remember this? "You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.†Code (markup): The very next day, while John Kerry was getting ripped and the quote was played everywhere, NBC ran a show entitled "What Kerry Meant". What the hell was that? Certainly not news. It was one network's attempt to bail John Kerry out of the hot water he got himself into. I think that CNN has an agenda, but consiracies are everywhere you want to find them.
You're point doesn't really make sense. You are saying that since people buy Coke and they buy Pepsi, that neither is bad for them. You are making a faulty conclusion. Here's some light reading for you http://www.polisci.ucla.edu/faculty/groseclose/Media.Bias.8.htm
Did you watch the NBC show defending a shameful comment? Or did you watch Fox New's crucifying him over a botched joke? It's not bias, it's capitalism. People choose what they want to watch. And as long as enough people choose to watch whatever it may be, that whatever it may be will be shown on tv (or in print, or online, ect...). Their "agenda" in this case isn't bias, it's ratings, without it they don't exist.
No, I'm saying they make Pepsi because people buy Pepsi. And they make Coke because people buy Coke. You're saying they make Pepsi because it's high in calories, while others say they make Coke because it's high in sugar. The fact that it's high in calories or sugar isn't why it's made, it's an indirect consequence of capitalism. Unless we want to do away with capitalism, soft drinks containing high sugar or calories will continue to exist.
It's all about the green whether it be TV or Press or whatever The greenback rules if the story sells the green comes in When did someone's differing opinion stop a Press Baron from twisting and manipulating a story or an event when he has a single pursuit the green Green $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It's funny how Fox News gets classified as being conservative. Fox News is completely fair and balanced. All the other networks are just so liberal that when you watch a neutral source like Fox News, libs are deluded into thinking it's biased to the right.
ferret still hasn't read the link earlier in this thread, but its no surprise. his poor reading skills are well documented.
whatever, I have watched fox news, I don't need some paper to tell me about it and its says also the study might be BS http://mediamatters.org/items/200512220003 http://www.newtownbee.com/Opinions.asp?s=Opinions-2006-01-26-14-51-56p1.htm
This is what I mean by your lack of reading skill Ferret. I was hoping you'd latch onto that sentence fragment and sure enough, you follow through with flying colors That's the whole sentence. Try and keep your attention span together long enough to get the complete thought. Thanks!
No, of course there's no media bias. That poll in a recent presidential election that showed media leaders by a 12-1 ratio voting Democratic over Republican was just a coincidence and has absolutely no relationship to media bias. No, no, there is definitely no media bias.
Yep, the Reuter's fauxtography story comes to mind. The Associated (with terrorists) Press scandal with Jamil Hussein comes to mind. The BBC admitting they were biased in their coverage there. CNN having to admit at least one of their major stories was under the control of hezbollah. There's some nasty biased coverage going on there, for sure.
