I have a controversial suggestion...

Everyone on the site should be required to fill out in their profile which country they're from.

Then we should have a filter that allows someone to filter/ignore posts from someone from any country they choose.

Let's say I don't want to view posts from anyone from Iceland (just as an example), I will have the power to filter them out.

    Opinions?

EDIT: This is what I would also suggest.

Make an exception for anyone with a certain amount of "green rep bubbles." (whatever they are called.)

There are a lot of good webmasters from places like India or Pakistan. So let's say I wanted to view every Indian webmaster that had 2 or more green bubbles, but none with any less. That will still filter out the bad posters, but keep the good posters.

Why should you do that, if it's not a discriminating manner?

Just ignore the users you don't like. It is much simpler.

    discrimination?

also, i can put any country i want, how about using ip address to check location?

i can understand your motivation. and i would like have it too. not because i don't like that country, but i feel (my opinion, not in general) those people are more likely to waste my time, so i choose not to see their post.

Your suggestion is really controversial. I don't think that's a good thing MrPoloShirt. That's discrimination and racism. I'm pretty sure shawn will not allow such things to happen here in DP.

    1. You can't make people fill it out honsestly.
    2. It's private information
    3. The reason you describe indeed sounds like discrimination
    4. What's the point? How can you possibly judge an entire country not worthy of taking note of?

Just ignore those you don't like. Don't mass discriminate against people.

It doesn't work like that. There are simply too many to ignore. I'm tired of sifting through all "hows does I makes lots of opportunities?" type posts.

I am in no way racist and I'm sure most of the people from the countries I would ignore are good people. BUT, I am tired of reading illegible posts.

exactly..and it is my private matter, no one is going to know which country i filter out, hence no one will get hurt...so where is the discrimination?

That's true, they could use any country they wanted, but overall, it would still sift out a lot of the junk.

I also agree, it's not because I don't like a certain country. I like most all countries and people of the world, but to be honest, most people from 3rd world countries are not as good with computers and the internet as most and their "noobish" posts really lower the quality.

Sure there are a lot of illegible posts which are kinda annoying sometimes. But you are wrong when you thought the knowledge of a DP member is determined by where he/she is from. That is a clearly racism.

It's not racism. Racism is hatred for people of another race. I have no hate in my heart for any country or any race.

It's just a fact that those from non-English speaking countries contribute MOST of the annoying and dumb posts on this forum. There is nothing racist about a fact. And that is a fact.

I am under the impression you're not from the US/Canada/UK, but reading your posts, I think you're a good member.

This is what I would also suggest.

Make an exception for anyone with a certain amount of "green rep bubbles." (whatever they are called.) That way people like you would not be ignored by people like me, because you have a proven reputation as a good poster.

There are a lot of good webmasters from places like India or Pakistan. So let's say I wanted to view every Indian webmaster that had 2 or more green bubbles, but none with any less. That will still filter out the bad posters, but keep the good posters.

banning people from a country is racism, preferring not to read stuff from a country is not.
