since there are so many SEO artists are here on DP. I was just wondering (for those who do this for income/living) where did you get your education? College? Or self taught?

I was just wondering because I want to learn SEO but don't know where to start... I know basics though.. like.. back links and using keywords in site content.. but that's very basic.

    Thanks :)

it is all self-taught for me

Its suprising how far up the search engine rankings just the basic SEO can take you.
Each site needs its own amount of seo, some sites only need basic seo to rank in the top ten

Ha yea thats all I know :( I don't think there's that much to know about it, just to be good at it you have to know where to get links, or you have to own lots of sites that you can link with...

i think the most important part of seo is researching the right keywords, and finding the ones that will bring you traffic with little work.

a well seo'ed website aint worth $h!t if the keywords it targets only get 50 searches a month.

I agree. Finding the right keywords are very important. Sometimes you see keywords that no one has SEOed any websites for, but can bring in a lot of business...

No worries. To answer your other question, it was self taught, which I am sure is the case for 99% of DP'ers.

How many searches per month would you consider worth while?

If you wanted say 400 uniques a day

Also wordtracker says 12 searches per day oveture says 108 per day for the same KW?????

i use to use WebCEO, its a decent tool, and gives you a basic overview of how well your page is SEO'ed.
i think there is still a free version available.

I'm self taught... Its not good taking lessons from a professor, teacher, or book that is old and out of date. The only real way to learn is keep up to date daily on changes and new strategies.

I think all the SEOs are self-taught, 'cause the only way to know something about it is the way of trying, making mistakes, trying again and so on. Sometimes you learn on others mistakes (thanks to DP that gives you such a possibility :) ), sometimes on your own.
Surely special courses and trainings can give you basic knowledges, but the rest is done by yourself. So it is not bad to take some special trainings and to get a certificate to show your employers that you are willing to study and are improving your skills all the time.
