http://www.wired.com/news/wiredmag/0,72497-0.html Good stuff. Yahoo's response is only marginally reassuring.
Wow i didn't imagine that Google would be valued over 140 billion...i guess google will always win this time..with that amount of money...they can by far extend to what Yahoo can offer...
Thanks for the link. It was a pretty long read for someone like me, but I found it interesting (and sort of tragic, even though I've always gone G over Y!).
Cool link. Not that I had much time to spare on reading something like that but it got me interested. It was not news to me that Yahoo! is struggling to keep up with Google. And it is not news that they keep failing. I can see why, if I look at their home page for the links on the left panel. You'll see they do almost everything that earns money online. From food to autos and real estate, and games, and on and on. A mixture of everything. No wonder it is not that easy to keep the search engine competitive with Google's that is all focused on search related services and does them right. A portal like Yahoo's is much more difficult to promote and keep it up with the evolution trends. While in London billboards rented by Yahoo were once so common, I saw none by Google, I think. Yet, look who's on top.. This should probably be an extra reason for Yahoo's SEO team concerns. Asking myself if they are really listening to the market? Well, maybe they are, but obviously the road they are following towards their goals isn't the shortest one.
If only Yahoo would look into their existing services , they could earn a bigger revenue for example they have these auction..why not have their employees find a better or strategic way to overcome big players in the online auction industry. I guess its time that they keep low on the search engine industry, google has won that there are other fields or services that needs better attention.
thnx joystick - long but worth the reading. Yahoo beats G 100 folds when it comes to revenue sharing with publishers. 4 that, I stand by yahoo.
I hope Google will do that one day.. instead of luring in billions and billions of dollars...to impress investors...
Very good article. Thanks for posting. Yahoo is garbage compared to Google. There was a line towards the end of the article. "At Yahoo the marketers rule, and at Google the engineers rule" Thats very true. If a company like Yahoo can't even target ads correctly, how do you think they are going to beat competition like Google? As for Yahoo paying more. Yes, they do pay more. But Publishers are a very small piece of the pie. It's all search that counts!
I guess it's largely their manner of positioning their search service as relatively unimportant or supplementary in comparison with all other services that did them a bad favor. Just look how small and insignificant their search box looks when placed on the same page with tens and tens of hot links... They seem to do everything to distract users' attention from their search. Not the case with Google.
Yahoo need to buy DIGG... Plain and simple if Google end up buying it then the game is well and truly over... On a side note i think Yahoo from a developer and Designers view is the bomb! They have the best API's and there tools are the coolest and funkiest. Google are what i call, safe toolsets, and all there applications are stock standard non-innovative (from the perspective of the UI). Very boring... Come-on yahoo.... "you can do it" !.... don't make the web a monopoly for google!
My thoughts exactly. They must be pretty excited to offer every single revenue generating service to the surfer. I would not even pretend trying to keep them all at top level, including their search above Google's with that kind of strategy..
