Someone asked me to click their ad

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by chem, Jan 17, 2007.

Someone I know asked if they would trade traffic with their site and they offered to trade ad clicks. I said I don't support click fraud and he got an attitude about it. How can I report this? The chat was over AIM IM. He is already trading ad clicks with another person and only more to come I'm guessing. Help me stop this idiot from ruining adsense.

    Thanks,
    Aaron

He personally won't but the other thousands of idiots + him combined will ruin it.

I hope he gets caught and hearing how strict Google is it should happen.

Send your AIM convo to google if you have it saved. If you dont have it saved...make up a new AIM sn and IM him and act like you want to do some business..dont bring up the ad clicking and see if he brings it up. Then copy the convo.

You shouldn't have told him you don't support click fraud. You should have just said "No, thanks," and then immediately sent all records of your talk with him to Google Adsense, without him knowing that you disapprove of his methods, or are "against" him. By doing so, he now knows that you don't approve of him, and when he gets banned (no doubt he will), he might blame you for "snitching" on him and come back to sabotage your account. You have to understand that people who cheat are not forward-thinking (or long term thinkers) and they act on impulse, and they can be very, very petty.

Please ad a click fraud detector to your website BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION. Why? Obviously you will be the reason he gets banned (if he does) and he might want to get revenge.

I'm kinda new to adsense, how will google catch him though? I mean unless his website has text on it saying "CLICK MY ADS" they can't do much can they, especially if he is asking people to click his ads via AIM?

You've kind of summed it up Timby - something he said on AIM doesn't constitute any evidence against him - even if AdSense challenge him (which they wont on this evidence) he could just say he was joking on. I would just ignore it and let him get on with it - he'll get caught eventually.

I do think that Google can track the CTR from a single IP. So, they'd see that your friend has a CTR of 100%, and that could get you banned...

LOl. Sounds like someone wishes it was that easy to skirt a banning from Adsense. Dude, Adsense DOESN'T NEED A REASON to ban you. If they just suspect you, they'll ban you. They are your Lord and Savior and they can do anything they want, anytime, on any flimsy excuse. Haven't you read the TOS? It's basically, "You participate in our network on our whim, so don't f--- it up!" etc.

I think we can be certain that they have ways of seeing patterns in clicks that go way beyond just looking for sites that say 'click these ads'.

You can be sure that google put a VERY large amount of resources into spotting click-fraud through all means possible, from monitoring forums to looking for relationships between IPs and everything in between, since their whole company depends on these ads.

The statistical chance of me clicking on someones ads and them, purely by chance, clicking on my ads soon after, is tiny. Patterns will emerge very quickly.

Not a good plan to build a business on.

Unless you have transcript of the discussion that took place you have no way to confirm this actually took place, so you are probably best off leaving the situation as it is. Googl will cath the person sooner or later.

Yes, I suppose you're right. I've often thought how interesting it would be if someone took Google to court to challenge them about their archaic AdSense rules. The rule that you can lose all of your revenue over a few invalid clicks is particularly dicey!

but if you inform G about the conversation, that'll raise some flags and they will most likely ban him.
