wikipedia is crap .... lots of articles are mis-information I was browsing it one day and found out that one particular country was established in 8th century haha.....oh and it was established as a reign in 18th century and as a country in 20th century .... this is huge mistake. I get much more and quicker info from my "paper" encyclopedia It is a joke that wikipedia .... maybe there is some correct trivial data for maybe some car model but country profiles and world history is just so stupid sometimes that my head hurts.....for info I look elsewhere....
Wiki is to me a useful book that has got a search box attached to it. You can search within the book, and not a word beyond. It's like browsing for something that you're pretty much sure it's there just don't know what page it is at. If I were to define a search engine though, it would do that in different words. And I don't see this changing in any way that could affect the future. An interactive encyclopedia, what else.. Oh and yes, that is definitely not a source fully worth of trust, yes it is misleading sometimes.
"Wikipedia, the open source encyclopaedia that is created entirely by its readers, with entries which can in the main be edited by anyone who feels they have something useful to contribute, has had an interesting few weeks." I would hold back before giving Wikipedia full trust. I also found this article worth reading: http:// news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4534712.stm
There are many infos in wikipedia that are fault or contradictory to the facts you find in your local library. I still believe some Dr. who researched let's say some period of history for 30 years more than some people coming to wikipedia, editing and "MAKING" new history .... Wikipedia is bullshit in my opinion ... I mean everytime I go and look for something I find mistakes ... Like I said it is good maybe for trivial info like how many horsepower ferrari has.....for other info it is not serious and it should never be quoted as reference ...
Yeah I don't know about Search Engine, but def. a replacement for other encyclopedias. It can give you information that standard encyclopedias lack, such as slang, and even gaming information.
Wikipedia is great! always use it when I need information on something, when I search for most topics using Google Wikipedia is on the first page like 40% of the time.
One thing I can agree on. While you need google eyes to be able to filter the little amount of useful information among tons of junky search results, Wiki gives it all to you straight. It mostly fits science and education info seekers but I personally have to scroll down to non-wiki links because I mainly use google to either search for news and business information or do my SEO homework.
I'd like to think it's because people recognize it as a great info source and link back to it when they create a site related to a wiki article.
Meaning poor search results and commercial advertisements? We've got plenty of that already. I'd rather vote for Wikipedia to keep following strictly educational and scientific directions.
Google will buy WikiPedia before it allows it to ruin the billion dollar adsense project. Search engines will die because they allow meta searchers like dogpile to scrape their info. So Googlebot does the hard work of finding every site, google then drops it in their db and uses ton's of bandwidth displaying results to users yet they allow sites to just take their information and republish it??? This is what makes Google special, they have no interest in taking over and play and share well with other sites. They do not want to become a monopoly, they will just take 3% of worldwide advertising and be very, very happy:>
they are dominating but in a 'silent' way..just look at adsense, people are crazy and pulling their heads out to run adsense... G knows what people wants. youtube is people choice by far, bought entirely...G knows this, they just know when to bend the rules...when to strike em, hell i don't know wikis can replace G, wiki's is more closely related to 'college mind stuff', people searching for intellectual approach, the 'university approach'... G wants to be popular, G wants to outbeat and G is not doing any charity here...it's all about business...electronic business, and they don't want people to rave adn bash around anymore...
