How to speed up opening of files & also increase amount of files that I can have open

    Hi,

How can I speed up the opening of files on my computer and the amount of files that I can have open and running at the same time.

To do this, do I have to increase my computers RAM. It is currently at 512MB

Would it improve my computer if I took 512MB out of the computer and replaced it with two 1012MB of RAM so that I have 2024MB of RAM instead. Will this speed up the opening of files and the amount that I can have open plus also dramatically decrease the LOAD on my computer?

At times I have to open over 100 tabs in a browser and it slows down with opening them after I have opened quite a few. I would like to improve the performance and be able to open about 200 before it slows down and then once closed it will be fast to open more again.

    Please help. Thanks!

More memory (RAM) and more memory.

Also check into a new processor...if you have that much open, you need something powerful...ram will help, but only to a certain extent.

OK, you mention more memory (RAM) and then you mention more memory again. Are these 2 different sorts of memory or do you just mean ram. Do you think that increasing it to 2048MB from 512MB will be the best thing to do.

Also, would it be cheaper to buy a new processor or just to purchase a whole new computer?

The processor does matter, but a 512 MB Memory is not using even close to your processor's full potential.

If you have 3 GB of ram or more, then you can think of getting a new processor to keep up, but until 2 or 3 GB of memory you don't need any extra processor speed.

Ram & Memory are the same thing

    OK!

I guess it's time for me to order some memory. Do you recommend using Ebay or is there any other cheap store.

Also, what type of memory ram sticks are the best that are not to expensive. The cheaper the better, but the performance of them has to also be good.

Just took my computer apart and had this RAM details:

Now I know that some RAM can be used for some motherboards and not for others as they have different slots. So I don't want to go buying some new RAM and find out that it doesn't fit into the slot.

So what do you think I shall buy for my computer. I want each stick to be 1024MB of RAM with good performance, but not costly.

    Thanks!

check online at tigerdirect.com and newegg.com. You have ddr400, so stick with that..your processor is fine, although if you are still feeling that it is slow after you get more memory, you can check in to overclocking it, just make sure you have enough cooling to do that.

I wouldn't overclock unless you can afford to change your hardware every year or so...it damages the hardware and reduces its life span.

Personally I would try just a RAM upgrade, and if that fails go for a new processor. Alternatively you could get a motherboard kit which is a processor, motherboard and RAM in a bundle.

Shouldn't I up the memory speed though from 400 to something higher as doesn't this help alot aswell or is it just the storage amount that needs to be increased on the memory stick?

Just go on NewEgg and find the memory that fits your computer. Their service is great, plus fast shipment and good prices

How do I know if the RAM from NewEgg is compatible to my computer. I have asked them and they don't even know theirselves even though they are selling it.

I don't want to buy RAM and then find out that it is not compatible.

Please help. Would the ram that I mentioned in my last post fit my computer. I will then purchase it if it does.

    Thanks!

The computer just bleeps when the new RAM is on it's own and when I also put my old one in it only recongnizes the new one. Could someone please help me here. I don't know why it doesn't work.

The RAM that I brought is: PC3200 128x72 DDR SDRAM 1024MB

    Thanks!
