Unique MySpace Site - ProfileBuzzer.com (digg like)

Discussion in 'Sites' started by Lunatic, Jan 15, 2007.

    Hi,

ProfileBuzzer.com is a new and unique Myspace site I started recently (Domain registered 8.11.06). It is based on the free pligg script which I have modified in several ways to better suit the site. The idea of Profilebuzzer is that Myspace users can submit their Myspace profile, visitors can then vote for the profiles and the profiles with the most votes go to the front page, exactly like digg.

    Modifications to the pligg script:
    - Custom AJAX header bar that contains an introduction to the site, links to bookmark the site, Adsense ads and the first step of the submission to simplify and encourage those.
    - Buzz Buttons, which users can add to their Myspace profile to get their friends to vote for their profile on ProfileBuzzer. This could become an important viral marketing tool for the site.
    - Custom footer which displays new and top profiles.
    - AJAXed register box in the sidebar.
    - Made submissions possible without being registered.
    - Rearranged story display, added expanding AJAX interests field.
    - And most importantly: A Myspace Scraper which automatically scrapes the User image, Gender, description, age, interests and much more from a submitted profile and inserts the infos into the submission form. Makes submissions very easy.

It will be best if you just try to submit a profile to see all the features for yourself.

    Revenue:
Assume no revenue since the site is quite new and was never seriously promoted. Site is sold based on the work I put into it, the idea and the potential mostly.

    Traffic / Promotion:
I never started to promote the site seriously, mainly because I don't really like the myspace niche and didn't have time for it. That's the reason I sell as well. All I did was:
    - A few bulletins from my Myspace accounts
    - A few submissions to social bookmarking sites

Traffic ATM : ~ 40 uniques per day (January) (Overal) [stats in German, ask if you don't understand something]

I do think however that the site has very much potential, especially since it has a more or less unique concept and a very well brandable domain name. It will be helpful if the new owner already owns a myspace site he can do advertising on or has large myspace account to send bulletins with.

The domain is at Namecheap, payment via Paypal only.

Starting BID: $50 (at least $5 increments please)
    BIN: to be announced

There is an error with the rss feed links at bottom right. What exactly do those do and can you fix them?

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It's a bug caused by one of my mods, I'll have a look at it tomorrow and think I'll be able to fix it.

Anyway, those are just the RSS feeds for the submitted profiles and not that important for this type of site...

Anyone can submit anyone's profile. I don't know how good or bad is that.
And what is registration required for?

And what does 'queued' profile mean?

$50 to start with - do you have an end date in mind, or will you just sell when you've decided on BIN/best offer?

$55 from me. How easy is it to transfer this to my hosting? Would you be able to help?

    $70 from me.

Waiting for replies to earlier questions. And more queries are as below.

    1) Suppose I vote for one profile. My vote is registered and count increases. Now when I click 'add to friends' in front of that profile, the browser goes to myspac.com/profile in the same window. Now, when I click 'back' button on browser, the person for whom i voted earlier shows the earlier votes. My vote goes missing.

    2) Rss not working

    3) Right now, one can see top profiles and new profiles. Is there a way, where one can view all profiles. If the site gets traffic, this will be necessary.

    4) How does a submitted profile come out of queued status?

    5) In all 'top profiles', can the profiles be arranged in descending order. Right now it is random.

    6) Can registration be made compulsory?

    7) Will u assist after the sale in case of small problems?

    8) Can the site be made part of another site and removed from current domain?

    9) What is the max number of profiles which will get displayed on a single page? And will there be 'pagination' (1-2-3-4---) or next buttons there?

Profilebuzzer.com looks a copy of BandBuzzer.com (which looks an older site)
    Do you own bandbuzzer too?

Hi, I'm sorry for neglecting the sale for the past days, I'll try to answer all your questions now.

Current BID is $100 by PM, I'll anounce the BIN and an end date later today.

Well that's an issue with most of those sites but you could easily remove a profile if there's a complaint.
ATM only for commenting on profiles. You could easily make it a requirement for submissions and/or votes as well.
New profiles go in this section, after that they get promoted to the front page when they received a set amount of votes (atm 5).

Well, you would just have to upload the files and import the MySQL database. I would help with both as much as I can of yourse.

Well the gender is just scraped from the Myspace account (but the user could change it during the submission process), so it might be wrong there as well :D

No it just looks that way. When you refresh the page after that you'll see that your vote has been counted. I don't think this behavior can be fixed but it's just a minor glitch.
Yes, I know ;) Working on it...
There's a page that lists all profiles ordered by votes here, I just removed the link because I thought it wouldn't be necessary on this site. Could be reverted easily.
If they receive a set amount of votes, atm it's 5 but can be changed easily.
No, it's not random, it's ordered by the time the profile got promoted to the top page. As you can see above there's already a separate page for descending order.
It can be made compulsory for voting and/or submitting if you want to.
Yes, at least for a few weeks but not indefinitely.
A subdomain should be no problem and I think a folder is possible as well but never tried it. In both cases several links and text variables would have to be adjusted in the template which I wouldn't do.
ATM it's 8 I think (can be changed) and the pagination will look like on bandbuzzer.com.

Not that I want to be seen as questioning your integrity, but i've had numerous experiences on other forums of people claiming high bids via PM as a way to drive the price up on their auction.

If its at all possible, could you provide any form of proof that this $100 bid has been made?

Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope you can appreciate my concerns.

I have now decided to not sell this website because I have several other problems at the moment and can't really commit any time to fixing the RSS problem with the site or deal with the transfer atm. I might list the site for sale again in one or two weeks though.

    I'm sorry for the inconvenience...

Shame, I was really interested in this one, and wasn't too bothered about the RSS problem.

Good luck dealing with your other problems, and hopefully we will see this up for sale again soon
