Romow.com is ranked 107th at Google for "Web directory"
It used to be among top 100, but was thrown out of top 100 after the latest SERP update.

Aren't you amaze when you check your stats and see weird phrases that they find you on...People just don't search for the common keywords.

But it doesnt mean anything. rank is too low...

This is quite a weird fact...

 

It depends to how you define " common words ". Try to think as your possible customers think in your industry and you will find the best words.

 

That's not good enough. You need some tools and research. You can't just guess this and that would be "best".

Sometimes you want to go ahead of people by targeting keywords that are NOT yet popular. If you can find those and start SEOing before everyone, your site stays at top of Google SERPs for a long time. I know this because my blog never got even ranked #2 except the major blog sites stole the spot occasionaly when they updated articles.

There is a risk there, but with a in-depth research and little bit of luck, you can do that.

i believe DirectoryDump Web Directory is sitting at 156th for web directory. I just started targeting the keyword this month, so I hope it will only progress and move up.
