Anyone care to detail how it works? in simple words ....

What i understand is that you visit the site and type in the phrase/word you want details on and then read the information it returns.
So who uploads this information? i mean who checks to make sure its correct and valid?
I just researched some of my industry standard words and i see the big companies named there? how do i get my site/company onto this?

My site is very unique and i would say that we are possibly one of only 2 companies online doing what we are doing ...

Anyone can edit it, as long as you haven't been banned for spamming/vandalism

It's starting to go the route of DMOZ in my opinion. Where you pretty much have to know someone to get your link to stay permanently.

I've tried everthing including linking directly to original informative related articles and my links still get removed. Granted I'm sure some of that is competitors though :)

so if i was to post information onto a related search phrase someone else could come along and remove it?
    thats dumb ...

or is it just wikipedia staff that edit and delete?

Can i email them to see if my posts would be usefull before i posted?

anyone can edit, add, delete to the content on wikipedia

if you add a link for advertising it will most likely get deleted right away/soon

to see if your article fit you have to talk with other members on that page in the "Talk" section, the tab at the top nav bar

If your link is at right place where it should be. It stays there.

Even if someone edits it out the senior person will undo the changes.

But same thing might happen to your addition also.

As an example, i used wikipedia to link to my photography portfolio website and the link has stayed there for over a year now. The wikipedia page was for a UK soccer team, and i have been to this soccer team quite a few times to take photos, so i edited their wikipedia page and put my portfolios link and just said, 'Here are some photos of TeamName in action' and thats fine.

I had a site in the past, and I wrote a decent article about it, it was full of links, and that article has been there ever since, I think it works pretty good.

And to get your site listed you just search for it, and then click on make a new page.

if you niche is popular in any form there are going to be people with a steak in the search terms at wiki. There are going to be people with interests to keeping the page correct and informative.

So, if you have a trustworthy site within your niche go ahead and edit some of the content or design a page on your site with quality content and site it on wiki as one of the sources after editing the wiki page or adding content.

Also try to get your link on the links section and you will probably get a 30 or more clicks from that per day. You might have to keep checking in on it or watch your refferals. Once your refferals drop off you might have to go back and put your link back on.

People keep a close eye on that stuff tho so you'll have to get their AOK also.

Yeah I too think the wikipedia has gone the way fo DMOZ. I wrote and article related directly to aviation and in particular the process in becoming an airline pilot. So I went to the aviation section and posted the external link to the article and within 30 mins it was deleted saying that it wasnt a 'GOOD' fit to the section.

I mean WTF its aviation related.

I think that too many of the editors just immediately remove links or that they have a vested interest in keeping their links up and no-one elses.

It sucks as bad as the corrupt DMOZ editors.
