Hi, here's the story: Let's say I have a site about aliens and I want to get good a good position for some keywords,in Google. My main keywords are "aliens","mars","space",jupiter". Now,here's what I'm doing to improve my websites position in Google(for those main keywords): 1)Submitting my website in directories using my main keywords in the anchor text. 2)Using h1 and h2 tags that contain my main keywords,on my website. 3)Using a link to my website in my forum signature. The anchor text contains my main keywords. My question: Will those 3 things improve my websites position in Google? Is there anything else I could do? thanks!
There is loads of info on this around the forums, have a scout around. Make sure you have your keywords in your title tag, but as i said have a look around.
It all depends, like a lot of things to do with SEO. They certainly could help, there is no guarantee that they will. It depends on how competitive the keywords are, and Google's view of your site in the first place. There is a lot more you can do - off page and on page. To go into a list here would be a disservice to you. Like rapesco said - read around the forums for more ideas.
To me your keywords seems not perfect. I guess you need to re look over your keywords first. Go for those keywords which have relatively high search count and less competition. Make sure they are relevant, do not go beyond relevancy. Next, doing directory submissions and forums link will sure help. but can't say you'll get top positions. Other things you can do are: (1) Social Bookmarking (2) Article Submissions (3) Do some press release if you can. All three will bring you good amount of traffic and sure back links helping you in getting good ranks. Good Luck.
They are good if he can rank well for them... But better choice would be somethink like "mars picutres" etc... p.l.u.r.
Yes, but you also need to add some quality related link to your site...if you can spend a little I would suggest buying some related PR6 links, some good deals are here at DP itself Article submission is also one of the thinks i do to get quality links
It's all depend on keywords; which keyword you want to target? if you know how to write Meta tag then it's possible within one week. title: target keyword phrases Description: target keyword phrases Keyword: target keyword phrases You get definitely coming up in google index page.
Titles are also important. Try to bold the keywords as well For off-page optimization, you can submit articles or linkbait.
Yes, just continue building links from time to time and be aware of Google's update on PR, SERP, and backlinks.
You can always optimize your website more, although I never had the time, http://www.jimwestergren.com/ blog is a good one, hes also a really nice guy. reccomend reading his blog
Create keyword rich content and they are very important. Also, add fresh content regularly as google loves them.
lets take wiki for example, submit ur site to niche paid directory. gets you high ranking and traffic as well.
yes those 3 things will help you to gain good position on google... a lot of other things u can do just study the seo sites and forums...
Thanks a lot for the help ppl. I'm new to SEO and I feel like an alien I also submitted a sitemap of my website to Google sitemaps and will include an html sitemap on my websites footer too.Hope it helps. EDIT: Something I forgot to ask about sitemaps.Google reports that my sitemap is OK and 2000 URL's submitted .Shouldn't those URL's appear when I do a "site:mydomain.com" search on Google?
All three things are used to optimize your site, but they must be used wisely, as well as any other things. Try to find some articles about usage of these 3 and other things and then make your own investigation by building sites with different application of these means.

Not really good advice Who said his competition was good at keyword research?? Research using a proper keyword tool and concentrate on what you sell and not what your competitor thinks is working. You would want to use a competitors methods only if it offers a benefit beyond your own offering.
