Open Source Alternative For Invision Power Board 2.0.0

    Hello everyone,

I've been running Invision Power Board 2.0.0 since it was released on the official IPS website in 2003 (before they made the software commercial-only).

This software is becoming old and I would like to move to a more updated software that is open source. Another reason I am wanting to switch is because in case I ever sell one of my forums, it will be easier to sell a forum powered by an open source system than having to explain how this version of IPB is legally free.

I'm looking for an open source software (with the exception of phpBB which I am not interested in running) that will allow me to convert my IPB 2.0.0 database with little problems. I'm also looking for something that has features that are on par, or near par, with the features provided with IPB 2.0.0. I could care less how popular the system is, I'm just looking for something reliable that allows me to convert my IPB 2.0.0 files to the new system (with the exception of phpBB, like I stated earlier).

If you guys have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks.

SMF perhaps? I agree PHPBB is crap. Vbulletin is worth the $300.

If you want IPB then try SMF and if you want VB then MyBB ;)

Thanks for your help guys. SMF and MyBB both seem nice, so I'll be sure to compare them.

Personally I like SMF the most.
Run it on 2 forum and never had problems with it.
Never tried MyBB on a live forum though. So can't give much information about that.
