I have a blog which is starting to get some traffic. The problem is that the CTR is very low. When I look at the ads that adsense is serving up, they all relate to blogging. I have tried section targeting to remove the sidebar from adsense consideration, but to no avail. My blog is about making money from your blog. Therefore the word blog appears a lot in my posts, and I assume that is why I am getting all the blog related ads. Any tips on how to get better targetted ads?
Well, it sounds like the targeting is working really well, you just want the ads to target something else. To do that you'll have to write about something else...
yupe, its really well target it. what kind of keyword that you prefer or what kind of ads that you prefer?
I guess I don't know exactly what ads I would like, but I wouldn't click on the ones that I see. I guess I will need to research it further and see what ads other sites are getting...
If you do not like the ads that are showing you can use the Competitive Ad Filter to block those ads. You can find this under ADSENSE SETUP.
I had the same problem today. The web stats code hidden into my website was making the adsense think the subject of my website was about web stats. I also altered the title and meta tags which resulted in more success for more targeted ads. I think of course relevent content would also make a difference like others have already said..
You could also try section targeting: every time you use the word 'blog' put it in a section that isn't counted. Of course that is a lot of hard work. You could also just emphasize the paragraphs where you use words like 'money' a lot.
Keep adding content and it'll sort itself out. Don't start going nuts with the filter like the other guy suggested, or other pointless endeavors that Adsense noobs end up doing. Patience is a virtue. How long has your site been up? Sometimes it takes Google a while to "understand" what kind of site you have, so it will start sending more relevant ads. When you say "some traffic", what are we talking about here?
Definitely, going filter happy is NOT a good idea. Personally, I have never used the competitive ads filter
My blog is almost 2 months old. Is that normally long enough for Google to understand a site? I am still only getting a couple of hundred page loads per day.
Page load? Are you talking about impressions? If you're talking about 100 impressions a day, that's not a whole lot. BTW, I took a look at your site. Your ads are not completely irrelevant. But you can't expect to get ads for whatever it is you want to get ads for when all you're talking about is blog this, blog that, how to blog with blog for blog, etc. Point is, you have blog as a keyword all over the place, so naturally ADsense will give you blog ads. I think Adsense is doing a very good job of understanding your site -- it IS about blogs; so you are getting blog ads and monetizing said blogs as a result. I'm really not sure what kind of ads you expect. It's like making a blog about Paris Hilton news and then complaining that all you're getting is ads about Paris Hilton. You can try section targeting, but really, your entire blog is stuff with blog keywords...
Yeh I found it annoying on my old site, that the ads had these specific things for example "Admining" for my football forum. Thanks for clearing that up lads.
