Hi, Two WordPress Questions : 1. I'm switching my html weightloss site over to Wordpress and I wanted to ask if php or html extensions are best ? 2. Also, what is the best format for permalinks : www.yoursite.com/%category%/%postname%.php or www.yoursite.com/%category%/%postname%.html or www.yoursite.com/%category%/%postname% What is the best for search engine ranking purposes, assuming that wordpress will accept these formats always. Thank you.
Honestly, I don't think it matters. As long as you aren't doing things like "url.php?x=blah&something=nothing" Content is what matters, and page load times.
According to who? Google's algorithm wouldn't care what extension it is. How is the extension of a page relevant to it's search relevancy? It's not. And even if there is a preferred extension, it definitely isn't weighted and important enough to get you that #1 SERP position. Just got with either %postname%.php or %postname%.html I like php just b/c it's faster to type
I agree. It really doesn't matter and it certainly isn't going to make or break the site's search engine results. Just make sure that what you do makes sense to your users. That is what is ultimately most important. And like the OP said, content is what really matters.
