Can we together start a big directory like Dmoz? (All directory owners)

LOL - you really make me laugh buddy - when i said trim the space from the left - i meant why dont u remove that space from the left of the "search term" while grabbing the variable - CLEAR?

 

I do not know how to do it you may help me

because if you search for 'Directory' it searches for the websites with the exact

keyword "Directory"

not like Google and other directories which shows all the pages with the keyword "directory"

You mean to say you want to make the search case sensitive ?? Does "Directory" and "directory" make a difference !!! So it means in your 3 keywords limit one has to enter "Directory", "directory", "3rd keyword" !!!

 

you see "directory" is not different from "Directory"

so if you search for "directory" listings will appear for the keyword "Directory"

so its same

thats why I am telling that keywords are important when you are submitting to my website

For a directory
you can choose these keywords

Web directory
Free directory
general directory like these

If you search for apple only listings with the keyword "apple or Apple" will appear

but no results for
apple pie,
custard apple,
apples,


I hope you understand it now

also the search is not case sensitive

I understood your point from the first post itself - when you gave the example of "directory" - web directory etc. .

I want you to clear two things (and thus clear your own contradictory theory)


1) Try and explain your logic in the example you have given for keywords:

Your selection of keywords:
Web directory
Free directory
general directory

All contain the common keyword "directory". Any special purpose behing that??

(Assuming that you stand by what you said in your earlier post about how the search feature works for your directory)Wouldnt the person be better off using:

Web directory
Free directories
niche general internet directory

2) How is bigoole different from google when searching for any keyword?

Also "clausheinrich.com" comes up when i search for "directory" on bigoole.com - is it supposed to be there?? Its a blog aint it !!

 

You can use different keywords

That is you can different keywords you like

Suppose I submit my directory www.jeffbrowninc.com for

keywords
directory
web directory
general directory

then when I search for any one of the terms mentioned above

My directory will appear in the listings

That is it can appear only for 3 keywords and not more than that

Actually my directory is a paid directory I have not choosen the keyword "paid directory"

so if any one searches for "paid directory" my site will not appear!


Technically speaking the script searches for the websites in my database with the exact keyword

 

I'm glad people are at least talking about this.
In a way, we have already done this, but it is much more diversified and fragmented. I could imagine more organization taking place over time that leads to a human edited solution that is superior to DMOZ.

 

keep me in your project i m also thinking abut it and searching abut parner.

 

yes I am just adding more features like

sorting the listings based on the content by an editor and sorting by

a combined algorithim (alexa rank,page rank,yahoo back links,msn back links,google Pr) etc

Since these would prevent a spam listing at the top

But a editors decision will be given more weightage in addition to it

Do not give me an infraction for this I am asking as I need some suggestions

I want to know some more suggestions from you as I am nearing completion

Also

whether I should allow submissions to reviewed by an editor or allow submissions to directly show up listings

As I feel that I can sort this submissions by back links

Then editors can choose the best site for a keyword

even though it has less no of back links(that is a new algorithim)

Why I am asking this from you is that if allow Pending submissions

then simply it would be a another Dmoz!

And another thing that the editors accountswho did not login for over a week or 15 days will be deleted as I have programmed like it

Also I decided to share the revenue with the editors through Google adsense

Just search for "directory" you may know it

Tell your views openly about revenue sharing

Either 5 or 3?
