Just in off the presses....it seems that American Samoa is "exempt" from the new minimum wage increase...why? Let me quote Boortz on this one. Link at the bottom. Neil Boortz: "And just what are the reasons being given for this? According to the chairman of the House, Education and Labor Committee, Democrat George Miller of California, the economy of American Samoa doesn't have the ability to handle the United States' minimum wage and should be exempt. Nice try...want to know the real reason? The answer is the tuna industry and like the product itself, this one stinks to high heaven. The average wage for tuna workers in American Samoa is $3.60 an hour. One of the biggest employers there is Starkist Tuna...which is headquartered in San Francisco...Nancy Pelosi land. Anybody care to take a closer look at the campaign contributions of Democrats in the last election? One thing is for sure, the delegate from American Samoa, a Democrat, is loaded down with campaign cash from the tuna industry." Link
Not as long as they have tuna and starkist "Chicken of the sea" is based in San. Fran...sorry about the paragraph form and the html language, my computer is on the fritz again and I can't edit it properly.
This is just conjecture. American Samoa is an unincorporated state and is exempt from many federal laws and regulations. Dog fighting is legal in American Samoa
But they are still and american territory, and they use US currency as well as flying the US flag...they could easily become the 51st state, they would just need to vote on it. Also, I think GTech has already called this by its official name, Tunagate...
Yes but American Samoa is an unincorporated state and is exempt from many federal laws and regulations. It passes its own laws too. Corporate lobbying is a big problem in US politics and hopefully the industry will be made accountable and transparent by congress and senate over the next few years.
