I sad when accepts a PayPal only... The more payment methods, the more happy users :) I don't like the category selector in combobox mode.

    1. When the directory owner loses everything because they didn't backup the database, and then they ask for resubmissions.

    2. When a free database goes paid, and the directory owner removes all of the free submissions.

    1. When a free directory goes paid (like the above poster). If you are doing free for only a while state that! "Free Submissions for 30 Days" or something to that effect please.

    2. Directories that use or sell my email for spamming me with viagra ads and other scam emails.

    3. Image verification that no one can read

    4. Meta Descriptions... what the hell is the point of this field?

    5. A list of rules longer than the declaraion of independance!

    6. Someone who has not put mut work into updatin the stock template... nothing annoys me more than when you see a lot of "place rules here" or "add title" things all over the page and the person still has the gall to ask for money to submit.

    7. Directories with Text header bars... spend some time or money please nd design a header at least

    8. Giving an error message on submission and making me play detective to figure out where I went wrong.... could you at least point me to where I need to fix!

    9. Directories that charge anything over $5 for submissions but will give me a link on a page with no Page Rank! Spend some time optimizing the pages in order to earn the money you are asking for!

    10. Directories that have no sub-catagories

Directories having script errors that show up only after completing all the website's details.

Asking for too much information (phone number, address, company) and making it mandatory.

PHPlinkdirectory giving the error "the url cannot be found" (your own website) event though it is online and working fine.

It is url validate to stop spam submission but sometimes it would make some troubles. you should make sure your server allows url fopen.

    Ok, i have found one.

it's annoyign to see a directory solicited in the solicitations and announcements section with a headline like

    EXPECTED PR5 ALEXA 123456

    1. i don't care what alexa rating you are.
    2. expecting and getting are two different thing.

try telling me your stats; daily uniques, how you are compaigning.

    anyone else feel this way?

Empty categories full of Google Adsense or Yahoo Ads, and a price tag of $34.99 for regular links.
If I pay something above $15 I don’t want any contextual advertising.

Owners who post open for free submissions on DP and they don't bother to approve the submissions.

If you post and I take the time to work through all conditions (image ver, meta whatever) and my sites are ok for everyone else, would you mind taking the time to approve them?

If you're only accepting a few sites or only sites for a few hours (your eyes balls are falling out from looking at the screen-I believe you) please say so.

Also is your site first in - first listed?

    Thanks

Something I encountered recently that reminded me of another annoyance. When you submit a site into a directory and there is no confirmation message that it was added.

Does that include taking the time read their submission guidelines not everyone elses? Being free doesn't mean all sites will be approved.
Agree with that, we get this all the time, the best part about it though is when they email asking why it wasn't approved. Go Figure.

I also hate captcha's requiring a NASA comp to decipher.

    1. Filling in the verification code. It's time consuming and some of them are hard to read.
    2. When you have to create an account to submit.
    3. When you select a category, and when you go to the submit page, the Top category is selected or none at all.
    4. When 1 day the directory is free and the next day it's paid.

Free to me means no reciprocal required, how can it be free if you have to do something, this is actually barter.

So time filling out the form is wasted if you don't wish to link back.

And yes I'm probably guilty of this myself somewhere, sometime but try not to be.

Right, some directories have like 2k sites in their backlog. Might as well not even bother submitting there.

Yes I feel 100% the same as you, folks need to tell it how it is :D

Directories are dependent on results not forecasts

Non payers and crap or always an ongoing problem

Well said, very few people submit to a directory based on where they think it will go in the future.
