Traffic Building sites... Are they all a waste of time?

Well, being a novice in the traffic-building world, I decided to purchase some hits from a few different websites. I don't really sell anything on my website, it's just a site for mountain bikers to meet and chat. I do make a few hundred a month on Google Ads, so it is worth it for me to keep up the traffic.

First I tried out was advertyz.com - My rating: Worthless
I didn't read the fine print... this site just shows your website in pop-unders... and as I hate those myself, I doubt anyone out there will actually visit a site delivered in one. My suspicions where true.. the 5000 hits I asked for were delivered in about 12 hours, and not a single person so much as clicked on page within my site. The main page was displayed and that was all (Sometimes not even displayed fully!)

Hmm, so I decided to try something new... targeted traffic from another website.

    usefultraffic.com - Rating: Worthless.
Let me start this by saying they offered me a 100% refund on my purchase which I took. I didn't even ask for the refund, but I did point out their short-comings and outright lies. The owner Tedd through email explained to me that his company owns 70,000 expired domains and sends me traffic based on the category I chose. I called him out on that, and yes it did turn out to be BS. This company, like others just uses a pool of someone else's domains. I did receive my 5000 hits, but they where all worthless 1 or 2 second page displays.. not a single click on any other page on my site. That math did not add up, since they where SUPPOSED to be sending me targeted traffic.. when you have a small niche site like mine, targeted it very specific and would draw many clicks through-out the site.

Next... I thought I would try a site that said how useless Usefultraffic was.. and well, it's just as bad.

    easysitehits.com - Rating: Worthless
These guys say they are better than everyone else and talk about that fact on their website, when in fact they have terrible customer service (> 3 days to reply to tickets), and send me the same IP traffic that advertyz sent me. Imagine that? My logs also look exactly the same as the usefultraffic and advertyz hits. All pages are displayed for about 10 seconds or less, then the person moves on.... never exploring my site any further.

So what have I done here... ? Are all traffic sites the same? Do they all send worthless hits? What can be done about it?

I would like to purchase real hits to my site... I just guess I thought these would be those hits... how very wrong I was.

Fair play to you for trying out a few of the services on offer. I have always been suspicious of buying traffic and your actual real experiences seem to back this up.

I hope you didn't waste too much cash.

No, I spend around $5(US) on the advertyz.com, but since I read after that they were Pop-unders, I took that as my own loss. They had clearly stated how they would serve my site.. I just didn't read it... so I can't fault them as they told the truth.

Usefultraffic gave me a full refund, and I am still waiting for Easyhits. I opened a ticket asking for my money back, but with their 3-5 day turn around on tickets, it might take awhile even to get a no... I might have to open a paypal dispute with them.. that might light a fire under them!

Try getting relevant traffic for your niche from related websites.

I've done that... I've been running this site since 2001, and it sees quite a bit of traffic, but it's stalled over the last year... I guess there are no good traffic websites out there eh?

In some niches, the audience is limited, so you cannot grow further. You you start a website on a different niche or do something else.

From websites who sell traffic you get only hits and generated visitors ... my opinion

    Cheers ;)

Well, I've seen how terrible these sites are now. Easyhits took over 6 days to answer my ticket to close my account and refund my money. I had to eventually open a Paypal dispute to get them to reply... now they are saying they won't give me a refund... whatever. If only there was a way to warn people like my searching for traffic to avoid these sites .. there is no accountablity for them.. they make claims on their website, but there is no audit to show they are correct..

It's just like stealing if you ask me!

Buying traffic other than PPC is worthless. To buy/increase quality targeted traffic, you can:

    - Setup an adword account with google.
    - Buy some advertising space on related traffiked websites.
    - Write and submit articles
    - Get links to increase your SEs rankings.
    - Submit to directories.
    - Submit to blogs.
    - Post in related forums.

"I would like to purchase real hits to my site... I just guess I thought these would be those hits... how very wrong I was."

PPC bring you the most targeted visitors but can quickly become expensive, if you decide to go PPC, you will need to make sure your website convert well for each keyword you're using with tracking. You can buy a script or softare, google also do it free.

If you buy traffic, you will only get visitors (even a fake one) the moment you pay them. The next day or week, you won't get anymore what you've paid... they will never come back for sure.

Since it's my first post I would like to say hello to all:)

I think what balthasar mentions is the exact truth from my experience as well. Don't waste time and money to such methods. Create quality content and promote it with the ways balthasar says. You will definitely get quality traffic.

Buying un-targeted traffic is a waste. You spend money and in return, you have a bunch of useless visitors hogging your bandwidth.

When you buy traffic, it's mostly from pop-overs and pop-unders.
Modern browsers and plugins block most of these adverts, and
those that aren't blocked are killed by the user almost immediately.

Buying traffic should be done through purchasing links on relevant
sites, PPC, CPA and so on. Leave popups to the porn sites :)
