Please don't patronise me it is very impolite. There is no need for you to 'Correct' me either, who the hell do you think you are some sort of school teacher? I will stand corrected if I am wrong, but in this case there is NO right and wrong as it IS simple phraseology and NOT a case of right or wrong If you read my post that is exactly what I said, We have called it 'updating' since the days they did update where as now it updates in everflux and only the toolbar PR gets updated or brought to a later point in time. Americans wear Pants, we also wear pants, but we wear our pants under our trousers while you wear pants that ARE trousers. I really don't see why so many see the need to try and be clever. BOTH Export AND Update are correct as toolbar PR is updated after being exported from the internal PR. ALL matt Cutts was saying is that this is NOT a PR update (which anyone with a basic knowledge of Google knows) it is a PR export IE exported to the toolbar and forward facing PR measurements. so "PR has been updated" is technically incorrect BUT "PR has been updated in the toolbar" IS correct. Although for some strange reason some VERY anal people would rather us say "PR has been exported to the toolbar and is now showing an updated snapshot in time value" YES I agree that words are important, but as I said, in the previous post. People say "I am off to xerox this" would you correct them and say " actually we don't have a xerox machine we have an Olivetti but you can use that if you like"? there are times when words ARE important and times when they are not. In this case 'toolbar PR has been updated" is taken to mean that live pr snapshot-ed at some point between now and the last Toolbar Pr export/update, has been updated/exported again. ANYONE who refuses to accept that the toolbar PR has been updated is talking bollox. SURELY it has not been 'brought up to date' because it is not live, but that is not what was being said. The original poster was either being clever or controversial. Either way everyone who understands how google works will know what they MEAN when they SAY 'PR update' I hope now that I have explained it clearly enough as I SEE IT (I would not dare to speak for others). Although, some anal retentives will still want to argue that we must use the correct phrases. export to the toolbar which then becomes updated. Toolbar PR update YES PR update NO people just call a toolbar update a PR update because that is the only place they can see Pr.
No patronising was intended. If you took it that way, please acceapt my apologies. You started the tone but heh, thats ok right? As I said, if you took it bad, a genuine apology. No offence was indeeded. I was simple attempting to get people onto this: Oh by the way, I am english, and not being superman I like to keep my pants under my trousers.
Patrick apology runs both ways. no offence meant. I do get a bit het up though when time is spent discussing a nothing No matter how many times you tell people that toolbar Pr is not live though, they STILL don't get it LOL
And just to correct your correction, the Toolbar PR has not been the live PR since well before BigDaddy. A few years at least. It was as soon as they stopped updating it monthly, iirc. Before the Florida Update (Oct 2003). -Michael
