What is Link Baiting?

Hi all, I'm a new member and had a question...What is Link Baiting? I've seen it mentioned here a few times - what are some tactics to use to 'bait'?

 

link baiting can be many things. whether its talking about something controversial in your industry or simply having an image of someone famous in a compromised situation. its basically something so brilliant that the whole world feels the need to link to you.

Thanks for the info! Anyone have any creative ideas that have worked? I'm looking to develop some links to a pet site...maybe starting a blog and posting a cute pet picture and sending the link around to friends?

 

I doubt a cute pet picture would be sufficient.

Maybe have a doctored but believable pic of the President's dog snapping at a small girl with secret service in the background and say that the pic has been suppressed by the news media? you get the idea. Of course it doesn't have to be a lie (open you up to libel ), but some thing you might put a spin on that makes it sound controversial ?

That's one version of link bait anyway....

Link bait is a method in which you create something to attract viewers to your site. Methods like News Hook, Humour Hook, Attack Hook, Contrary Hook and Resource Hook.

If you're creative and a true entrepreneur with great marketing mind, link baiting might bring soooo much traffic to your sites.

It's the most affective part of online marketing for my sites.
