No, there isn't. If you happened at one time not to know wth was going on when the toolbar was being updated, fine. However, I can assure you that the vast majority of the webmastering community has been well aware of this fact for at least a couple of years now. Trust me, everyone and their brother knows that the update (and yes, it is an update) is a visual one. Now, if you would like to write to SNL and inform them that since they are not actually making the news happen, then they should rename "Weekend Update" to "Weekend Export", feel free. -Michael
http://www.seocompany.ca/pagerank/page-rank-update-list.html http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/whats-an-update/ In my opinion, they are quite different. I think I'll listen to Matt
You're right, it's a PR export, but effectively it's always worked that way, PR has never been in realtime.
The point isn't that your facts are wrong, it's that you're updating us with this "news flash" that's over a year and a half old. We know. We knew before Matt graced us with his words of wisdom. We just don't care. We will use whatever words we want to, and since it has been an update for years now, and update it will most likely stay. Via princeton.edu: You can update a system, change it to be newer, or you can update a person or population, informing them of current information. A PR update uses the latter sense of the word, that's all. -Michael
The point is that the vast majority of people here do not understand the differences between an update and an export, and in my opinion we should be encouraging people to use the correct terminology. That's all
It is the correct terminology, it is an update of toolbar PR, that's all. People just don't bother learning about these things. I has someone yesterday trying to tell me that you don't need backlinks to get PR. Anyone that's done any kind of reading on the subject knows that isn't true.
Heh, the same guy neg repped me, calling me a dipshit, for trying to help him understand how it really works. I'm too "close minded" though. -Michael
I really wouldn't bother trying to help some people. The only problem is a lot of these people read these boards, so then they go away thinking that if they leave their domain parked, then at some point it'll get found and given PR.
It's not tomatoe damn it, it's tomato!!! I feel silly even posting in this thread. A Google geek argument that can almost be compared to which Star Trek was the best one (Next Gen BTW ). PS Matt Cutts aka The Google Propaganda Machine
Thanks for this info... I am really out of dark now. But looking at my tool bar with my fingers crossed.
PR export = Toolbar PR update, when we say PR, we are reffering to toolbar PR, because we can't see the current PR. Algorithm update is an algorithm update. During this, the current PR ( known only by google ) is updating, but we can't see it, we don't know when it happens, but, the google PR for your website is updating each time google find a link for your website, or when the algorithm is changed, but i'm saying it again, we don't know when this is happen, so we don't have too much to do with google PR. The only thing we can see is the toolbar PR. PR update is short for Toolbar PR update, because we don't use this shortcut for other thing. Hope this clears up the confusion.
apart from the semantics fo a toolbar update anyone wish to look at there sites and see the date of the update data?
Thanks for trying to clarify but does anyone care what its called? The pagerank we see in the toolbar is changing. When we say pr update, everyone on the planet knows what we are talking about.
Thank goodness for that post. I was certain all those PR Update threads were referring to the algorithm!!
From the data that I have to hand I'm seeing Pre-November. Others are claiming it's as recent as mid-December though. Take your pick, I'm not 100% sure on either of them.
And just so you know, our point was that the vast majority of people here do understand. Yes, they will always be an influx of newbies and new questions that come with them... however, your post was taking the stance that you were leading a major revolution to the revelation, and that just wasn't the case. -Michael
Hi Matt, on my network I can see some were very late october, others around the 11 of Noviember. Its easy to spot. All the posts on the 10 of noviember got pr4. The ones after, have no pr. But having looked at other sites, the dates seem to change from site to site! Interesting.
