And yet, that is what the Big Bang theory also requires. And what does conservation of mass have to do with anything? Matter can be created. Matter can be destroyed.
In a sense yes. Before the Big Bang is something we don't know a whole lot about. Really depends on how you comprehend the situation as from one view, you can say that energy is something that exists only when time exists while in another view you can say that energy can be in some situations exist without time. It's all about how you understand spacetime along with energy and time. I'm guessing your referring to the theory of relativity and the particle accelerators. But you can read more about the CoM and the accelerators. All I'm saying is that the Bible brings up many debatable issues.
There was no Before the Big Bang. That is the point at which Space and "Time" were created. The purest form of energy is light which exists inside and outside of space and of space and time in the MULTIVERSE (INFINITY) All combinations of possible universes.
Couldn't possibly - like I said, I am no scientist, have little grasp of logic and am fairly simple. I personally believe that those laws of physics that you speak of existed before we "discovered" them and gave them a name were created by God. Isaac Newton was a Christian who studied the Bible and science and managed to allow the two to go hand in hand. Many scientists are Christians and the two do not have to be mutually exclusive of each other. Which laws does Christianity ignore, incidentally? I am interested to find out as I have very little understanding of the scientific world and also am wondering whether it is Christianity as a whole that you have found to ignore these laws or whether it is a particular faction/teaching that has caused you to reach this conclusion. Also, how would one go about proving a law? By experimentation and theory, I thought. Seeking the proof in anything surely requires a certain amount of faith even to contemplate the idea that something exists in the first place - I would have thought Christianity would be included in that assumption?
Speaking of miracles, the Vatican has just approved a miracle by a Maltese soon to be Saint. The process is long. Scientists are involved to make sure it is an act of God. More info here. independent.com.mt/news.asp?newsitemid=44513
Jekka I think what Static means christianity, really most religions as a whole, always stood in the way of the progress of science, just because of their fears. So they began to call scientific ideas witchcraft, works of the devil etc. Example, do you know when film first came out christianity and many religions called it "filmcraft"? If you know about the history of your religion then I believe you already know what I mean.
Historically, you have a point there - but the fundamental thing missing here in all these arguments is the impact of the Holy Spirit within a Christian's life. The church has made some monumental cock-ups over the last however many years and so much of it is down to the people in charge being corrupt - they had no faith, no relationship with God and therefore no real conscience as to what they were doing. The religion as a whole may well have said "this is the work of the devil" etc, but true Christians, with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and the discernment and wisdom that can only come from God do not see a demon under every doily. There are still many scientific progressions that are emerging to this day that as a Christian I am very uncomfortable with, but medical science particularly hails them as revolutionary breakthroughs. I am not citing the work of the devil, merely man's desire to be top dog and play God. I am not religious - I have better things to do with my time than stand up, sit down, read this, do that. I have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and back in the day, religious leaders did not teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit because of how much of a ruckus it could cause when the ordinary man realised that God is on their side after all and they have the power to do all the things that Jesus Himself did with the Holy Spirit flowing through them.
Because we are spoiling the environment ourselves, Sun doesnt cause cancer but when we all spread pollution for creating weapons/chemicals it makes every environmental layer broken. Remember the environment and everything is a gift to us and we need to maintain for ourself and coming generations, not to spoil is blind and stupid acts in the name of development.
I see will is taking things out of context again. What a baby. Jekka, smartest post I have seen from a christian perspective for a while.
Darksat. I wonder if you realize that Nietzche was actually quoting the Bible in his poem? That he was toying intellectually with a situation we read of within it's hallowed pages? That he was showing quite a bit more respect and fascination with it than do you or Mr. Spencer?
He also gave us christian fundies to bomb us. Yay for god! Typical christian can't distinguish a religion from atheism. ATHEISTM IS NOT A RELIGION. Wow that shows your extreme lack of intelligence. Can you be more intolerant? It saves human life, unlike your magic man in the sky. Why does the pope say to worship god and tnotechnology? What a hypocrite, he broad casted an anti-technology message on live TV, over a microphone. Fundie alert. Woah you forgot hitler, slaying jews for no reason. He btw was of course christian. A lot christians will say he's atheist though, they like to make shit up. They'll also say Einstein was a christian, when in fact he was atheist. Using their bible as a form of argument always fails. Thet don't read it, and have no concept of it. They will deny the old test even though it's in the bible. All they know is the lies their priest feeds them. IE god is good god is great. When in reality if god exists he's an evil disgusting animal, who feeds off human misery. Do you think they'd still be christians after reading such a violet and repulsive book? Who was talking about islam? Oh wait you just wanted to start being the typical bigot christian of this thread. Mmm try ZERO. It's illegal in a lot of places for atheists to hold public office. Thanks christians you're so tolerant, and not hypocritical!
Rubx... Your ignorance of Christianity is astounding. You're vicousness towards it - pedestrian and callow. Quite ho-hum. You know, we've been around a long, long time, we're gonna be around a long, long time still (eternity to begin with ) you'd be amazed to learn that some of us actually believe and try and do what, as the saying goes, "we preach." So, in this spirit, I am going to ask you how it is someone could possibly get so dang confused about a faith he professes not to believe? One would think, by the tenor of your comments, that you believe yourself an expert on the subject. How is it then that you do not realize that the Christian is free of the Law which you quote? If you have any questions you'd like to ask maybe I can help answer them
skeptically.org/thinkersonreligion/id8.html Maybe if christians didn't effect my life I wouldn't have a problem with them. But their extreme intolerance, and ability to control such a large part of america is disturbing.
Rub3X, welcome to the forum! This is very true. In fact, while filling out profiles on most social networking sites Atheism is presented as an option in the dropdown menu "Religion". When it should be more like: Religion? Yes / No (checkbox) and only if someone clicks on Yes should the dropdown list of religions(which should not include atheism) appear. Possible dropdown menu options for selecting "No" can include Atheism, Agnosticism etc. I agree.
Ahh the old god save me from your followers syndrome. AKA I dont belive in god because most of the christians I meet are idiots. How many people here have been dissuaded from believing in a higher power simply because of negative experiences with christian and dogmatic people?
