I have just started at researching about buying & selling domains.

What do you think about domain names that have already expired about 6-12 months ago, have had websites setup before which can be seen on archive.org from around year 2000-2002, but has no search engine ranking at all.

Are they potentially worth something because they were previously setup a while ago & have been archived or have they lost their "aged" status because they have not been deregistered for about 6-12 months?

If the backlinks have stayed, sure there is value there.

It is really worth to spend on it. If you spend little time to submit to directories, e-zine articles, forum postings (I'm ready to do this for you at minimal cost- lol), link exchange etc., you'll get a nice PR in next updation...

just the age by itself probably doesn't have much value if the domain has expired.
But if it has some old backlinks, that are indexed and show up in search engines that will count for something..

Only listed in archive.org, no backlinks in the search engines when I checked using "link:www.sitename.com"

So if those sites were build up, the PR should update quickly because of the age of the domains & get a pretty good PR as well?

If the site was built up, if I wanted to sell it later on, would it be worth more than a domain registered in year 2007 because it was originally setup about year 2000-2002?

If the domain has no backlinks, then you are pretty much starting from scratch. If it was a popular website, you could still get some bookmark traffic perhaps.

No, when a domain expires, and then renewed, the domain creation date changes to the day it was registered and is treated as if it had never been registered. If it has pages in archive.org - it has no value.

But would an old domain with backlinks that has expired get you out of the sandbox faster than a new reg?

    Simple answer.

Look carefully..... If the domain Re-Registered then it lost the age benefits and if you see the age since 1999 in whois.com then you will get the full benefits of the domain.....

Old Backlinks are important but if the domain has 0 backlinks then its still have much potential because its already passed all the difficult stages like sandbox etc..

I hope my advise work for you..

BTW if you need old domains then check my signature ;)

I recently bought one domain originally registered in 1998. This domain didn't have almost any content (just front page and contacts) .. When I transfered that domain and change the whois info to mine.. I the PR suddenly dropped and has not returned yet (the last 6 months or so) ..

My question is the following: If you purchase aged domain, how should that be threated? Any special things to know ?

Also I noticed that after I changed the domain, the Google started crawling it more often.

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

sometimes rather easy .. but requires a lot of research.

Usually i search for cool names .. and if I see that they have very old and not updated website for more than year .. I get the info from the domain whois and I give em a call .. if they have any plans to continue working with them and so on .. and sometimes I'm lucky enough to make a good deal out of it :)

Try and you might win :)

There are so many domains that are not used and are waiting for some smart enterpreneur to take them ...

Wish ya all luck.. that's needed...

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

iBoy, just wanted to let you know you kinda screwed the value out of all of the domains on your site by parking them. They are all PR0 unindexed sites now. Any value they had from being aged is pretty much lost. You might want to re-check your listing by PR (pr4.asp, etc) as they no longer apply.

Kind of a shame, potentially valuable sites made worthless like that. The one you are asking $3000 for, for instance... now it's PR0, not indexed in Google, no pages cached in Yahoo, no Google links, and since the domain is a specialty domain name, and has no value that way, it's probably worth lesss than if you bought it new.

Basically you have a junk heap of random domain names for sale now.

Is there any ways of parking a domain without losing the PR or backlinks?

You can get hosting accounts that allow for unlimited domains dirt cheap. Throw up the domain as actually hosted. Put up some sort of content, no matter how sparse. If there are (were) any pages on the domain before you got it that had higher PR then I would also put up placeholders for those pages as well.
