*** DO NOT START A THREAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR INFRACTION(S)***

    Infractions F.A.Q.

Remember: The staff here have the final say on what is appropriate and what is not.
    _______________________________________________________

As much as some do not like the infraction system, it is necessary to control a forum of this size. An infraction is a simple warning that you have done something wrong. It's not the end of the world, so don't take it personally. There is no real consequence to receiving an infraction, unless you are a spammer or you frequently and blatantly break the rules. If you manage to rack up 10 infraction points, you will be banned temporarily.

Here is a list of what you can receive an infraction for and a brief explanation of why:
    • Duplicate thread - If you create a thread about a subject that is already being discussed in another thread, you may receive an infraction.
    • Affiliate links - Affiliate links are allowed in signatures, but they are not allowed in posts.
Affiliate links include links to doorway pages, masked urls and "invitations" to join websites.
Affiliate links include posts which say "check my signature" or "pm me for the link"
Affiliate links are also not allowed in PMs, and you may not start threads to promote affiliate programs via PMs.
Masked links and referral links are also treated as affiliate links.
    • Thread hijacking - Off topic posts or trying to promote your own item/service in a thread started by someone else are both examples of thread hijacking.
    • Running up post count/post has no value - Posts such as "pm sent", "lol" or any other useless post that does not contribute to the forum or the thread is considered a post that has no value.
Posting numerous "welcome to the forum" posts in the Introductions forum is also considered post padding or running up your post count.
Posting an opinion in a sales thread such as "great price, good luck with the sale" but not actually bidding or participating is not allowed.
    • Inappropriate post/thread - Although we are quite liberal, certain threads and posts are simply inappropriate. Examples of inappropriate posts would be porn and blatant vulgarity.
Additionally, failure to read the opening post and respond appropriately may fall into this category. For instance if you need to send a private message to the "Original Poster" and you've posted in the thread.
Posting in the Buy/Sell/Trade section for something which is not permitted (eg Money Exchanges, Account sales) will be considered inappropriate, as is Warez. You can read more at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=757045
If you are posting in Buy/Sell/Trade you must be prepared to discuss the offer via Private Message (OR email) instead of asking people to post to the thread for more info (such as asking them to post "sent," "I'm interested," etc.).
Threads that are started with ShareAPic or ShareCash content and are not your own work are not allowed.
    • Thread started in wrong category - If you start a thread in the wrong forum because you do not have enough posts to start a thread in the correct forum (the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, for example), you will receive an infraction.
If you start a thread in the wrong category, but it appears that you at least attempted to put it in the right forum, you generally will not receive an infraction.
    • Bumping thread - Bumping is when you reply to your own thread with the sole purpose of bumping it to the top of the forum. Also, a worthless reply to old threads can also be considered bumping.
Your post may be considered bumping even if you are not the "Original Poster".
You may receive a bumping infraction for asking people to post if they have submitted, or are interested if they are not needing to discuss your offer.
You may receive a bumping infraction for posting "I'm interested" etc even if the OP has directed you to do so. Registering your interest should be by Private Message unless you are adding to the public discussion of the offer.
    • Inappropriate language - Cursing is not forbidden in this forum, but we expect it to be used minimally.
This forum requires posts to be in English. Posting in any other language will be considered inappropriate. *This rule applies to signatures as well*
    • Attacking/harassing other members - You are allowed to disagree with the opinions of other members but you are not allowed to attack the person or their circumstances.
    • Spamming - If all or the majority of your posts are promoting or linking to your website or product, you will receive an infraction for spamming.
Spamming will also include the use of hidden images inside your posts.
    • Duplicate account - If you create more then one account at Digital Point Forums, you will receive an infraction and will be banned.

    More info regarding infractions:

    1. Yellow infractions are just warnings. Red infractions are the real deal and will incur points toward being banned.
    2. When you view your infractions and the post says "Private" it means that the post you received an infraction for has been deleted. If the post has not been deleted, you should be able to click the link and view the post.
    3. Profile infractions have been given to you for breaking a rule on a number of occasions - and the moderator has felt there is no need to specify the thread.
    4. If you do not receive a notification of your infractions then we recommend you turn on the "Receive emails from Admins" in your Options section of the Control Panel.
    5. If you object to getting an infraction when "other people get away with it", then help us clean up the forum by reporting any problem posts you find. Reports can be made by clicking this button: [IMG]

And finally, Do not start a thread about infractions. 99% off the people that do it are simply playing dumb and wasting the time of moderators. Starting a "Wah! I got an infraction!" thread will probably lead to another infraction.

    I hope this helps :)!

Thread starters who make comments like "Reply to this thread for details" should also be given infractions.

We can also give "profile infractions" for anything not covered above, so if you really want one...

Nah, just kidding.. I remember Nintendo asking for one some time ago and getting one... I've got more than enough right now.

Anyway, thank you for the explanation on infractions. They remind me of those demerits I used to get in Catholic School. Those Nuns were MEAN!

Guys, Tops iz da one to go to to beg, or BRIBE :D for an infraction!! I did it twice, and it worked both times!!!

I then got one infraction four days ago for 'Running Up Post Count/Post Has No Value' but it was reversed when da mod noticed I was answering some ones question!!!! (It was in da AdSense FAQ, which looks like it turned in to a massive 'think you, post count +1' thread.)

I got a warning/infraction recently and the reason was and I quote:

"Read the bloody thread! He askes YOU to PM HIM!"

Nice attitude there on his/her part. Geesh.

Sorry but that is exactly the reason to give them. It winds me up when people say 'PM me for details' then people come along and post 'please PM me with details'. Like why can't people follow simple instructions ;)

I understand and it was an honest mistake. I should have read the post carefully, you're right, but the moderator's approach could've been better.

Ok, I'll shut up now. :)

Excellent guide VS. Question - not that I've been guilty of this (but maybe I could be someday)

Would it be fair to say no bumps of your own thread within a given time period - say 48 hours - or whatever timescale seems appropriate. It would save people starting a new thread.

Won't it be nice if the seller could "post" the details in the "thread" instead of asking for PM's?
That would solve all the confusion and the trouble of "asking" and "posting" PM messages in threads...
    Bye :)

Nope. Bumping isn't allowed, so matter how long it has been. Starting a new thread about the same thing also is not allowed (that would fall under the "duplicate thread" catagory).

I got 2 infractions for this bumping thing and I think I would be very very careful about bumping :) All infraction rules saved to Mind disk and will be opened again while browsing DP. :)

As long as the two threads are different enough (don't copy and paste them, for example), no one will likely notice. hint, hint...;)

    VS-
I just received an infraction for Running Up Post Count/Post Has No Value. I simply replied to a Link Sale post that I had taken advantage of the offer and was awaiting approval. I'm guessing that anyone can dish out infractions and I cannot see who is sending them? I don't find my post of any less value than the countless others advising the poster I had taken advantage of the offer.

I'm a regular here, so running up post count was definitely not my intent. I just wanted to get clarification.

    Thanks.

I understand the need impose these rules. I myself moderate a forum half this size and without guidelines it would be pure chaos.

Pedro... we got hit on the same forum. I understand the need, but I'm questioning the rationale. If I'm incorrect, then I just want to learn and avoid it from happening. This is by far the best community for SEO and enjoy being an upstanding member. As such, it was disturbing to see RED.
