The Democratic-controlled House voted Wednesday to increase the federal minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, bringing America's lowest-paid workers a crucial step closer to their first raise in a decade. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16558329/ It is interesting that Bush is against this. After stealing billions of dollars for themselves, they don't want to give American Workers so little that probably won't even keep up with inflation.
so how is "raising a family" on 7.25$/hr better than 5.25$/hr...40 hours/week = 80$ per week, 65 after taxes...whooptie...whats funny is that there are very few places that pay the 5.25. Did you know Wal mart actually starts its employees higher in wage than "nicer" places such as Barnes and Nobles? Find out more here.
I didn't think it is any better. They will still be poor but strangely enough your buddy Bush doesn't even want to give this little to them. I suppose it is a Christian/ Republican thing, I drink a $1000 a bottle of wine but $2 dollar extra is too much for a worker.
So it's a little higher than many provinces of Canada? Doesn't that make you feel bad, gworld? Or do you only have bad thoughts for America?
Bush doesn't drink...he is totally against it..again, you have no idea what you are talking about, as usual. The dems wanted to raise the minimum wage so they could "look good" in the eyes of the people. We will give you more money!!
I didn't mean Bush personally but I am sure he didn't drink cheap stuff before seeing the light. For what ever reason they are doing something for the poorest section of American workers and what is Republicans response? No money for poor people, billions for us.
The actual response is get off your lazy rear and get a better job. Dems response is keep your lazy rear sitting at your stupid job and we will throw more money at you, which only hurts the small businesses in the end.
Can your lazy brain comprehend that those jobs are necessary and serve a function, otherwise it wouldn't exist. Employers don't hire people just because they like to pay them, they hire them because there is a need for their work. People should not work and starve, slavery has ended long time ago.
Wonder why gworld only wants to attack America on minimum wage and not his own country? Boo America!!!
Like this is going to help anyone where I live. What is the percentage of those that apply to this law....like 2-4% of the workforce? Does anyone realize America is huge, and price of living is different to different areas? Therefore the concept of what works 'here' doesn't apply to what works 'over there'. ehhh... It's a negligible issue for the uninformed public.
I only seen that for myself when I lived there and had no clue on different areas having different living expenses.
I just hope he keeps his head together tonight in his speech, he will have had a few lines (probably around half a gramme) before coming out but there is always a chance that he'll fluff it. Let's see how it goes.
About half of minimum-wage earners work at restaurants. Millions more have wages that are influenced by the minimum. Its buying power is at its lowest point since 1949. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-05-30-minimum-wage_x.htm I think it matters to these millions of people.
Let's imagine that they get $10 /hour, this means that this person will earn $10*40*52=$20800 if he works every week of the year. Compare this to http://www.usatoday.com/money/companies/management/2006-04-09-ceo-compensation-report_x.htm Do you really think that a CEO works 860 ($17,900,000/$20800) times harder than a worker?
